tree nut allergies and coconut?

Hello all, hope its a great day for you in radiance and recovery =)

Recently I'd been on vacation and with family / relatives. I found that consuming tree nuts was giving me problems, and I got tested at the doctors. I've been recommended to avoid tree nuts and, I was always avoiding peanut as I'd known I was allergic to them long before this.

My question is, would coconut be considered a tree nut? I get confused, i hear about many people being able to consume coconut with no problem if they are allergic to nuts because it's more of a fruit than nut.

I've heard coconut has so many great benefits and would like to utilize it more in my daily eating. But if it's called coco ' nut ' and grows on a tree LOL, maybe it's not safe =(

Thank you all for the clarification, i do hope i could have coconut because it would make a great addition to my breakfast.
