Re: Gilbert's Syndrome anyone?
In Response To: Gilbert's Syndrome anyone? ()

Hi Sue
I had never heard of Gilbert's. However, hemochromatosis runs in my family. That's a condition where your body doesn't deal well with excess iron. It ends up accumulating in the body, where it can cause joint and organ damage. I don't know if I have it or not, but the treatment is donating blood, and I make sure to donate regularly just in case.

I think the program helps with managing a lot of conditions.

: Hi All. I've just been diagnosed with
: Gilbert's Syndrome - a defective
: gene that means I don't get rid of
: old red blood cells as efficiently
: as normal people. Looking through
: online sources, it turns out the
: main things that help are keeping
: blood sugar levels steady, eating
: regularly, not fasting, low GI
: carbs, avoiding sugar &
: alcohol, avoiding stress,
: sunlight. So no wonder I've felt
: so much better over the last 12
: years since I started on Step 6!

: I read that 1 in 20 of the population
: may have Gilbert's [pronounced the
: French way!] Syndrome so anyone
: here have the same diagnosis?
