So here is something fun for us to take a look at.
Opiates (read sugar and alcohol) abolish conditioned responses to adverse conditioning. This means, use sugar, use alcohol and we WILL forget the consequences of our behavior.
what happens with our opioid receptors has a profound effect on how long it takes to acquire adverse training. Now what does that psychology talk mean? LOL. It means, if we are still using sugar or BE spiking, it means it takes a LONG time to get it. Use drugs, whatever they may be, and if they are BE drugs, we will forget.
We are gonna talk about what *drugs* can be for us. <smile>.
How do we reconcile July 4th with all our British members? Such an interesting dilemma!
I will do Euroconversations today, but will defer on holding a chat tonight. I am going to the ballgame with my son and granddaughter and will stay for fireworks. Read the eurochat transcript and we will pick up next week on the 11th. The introverts can have LOTS of time to reflect.
I am sorry for the late notice. Somehow Monday is not yet burned into my brain the same way Wed is. I am very grateful for your patience and flexibility.
All of us int he program have struggled with addictions in one form or another. And as we spoke of last week, there is often a great deal of shame associated with that. And often, when we step out of addiction, we want to stop thinking about how it was…we want to move forward and simply not have to look at that life.
But there is a key issue…a converted addiction becomes an all powerful tool, an incredible ally for recovery. The skills we learned to maintain our addiction can become skills for recovery. Things like making sure we ALWAYS have what we need, no matter the time, the place or the money.
Sometimes, when we are starting recovery, we can feel powerless in the face of all the things we think we have to learn. <smile>…it is way easier if we simply give the old things a new job description.
