Hi {!firstname_fix}

I am up in northern AZ this week working with the Hopi Nation. Come share at:

http://www.hopiculturalcenter.com

It is a quiet time for me.

There will be no new classes starting this week as I will be traveling, but upon my return these classes will begin the wek of June 26:

Brain Chemistry Beta Endorphin - Week 1 is the next in the series of the brain chemistry classes we do. I love this series, hope you will join us.

Step 4: More Intriguing Than You Think is ur fun potato class. We will talk about refining your step 4...how much, when, why and no matter where you are, LOL.

Step 6: Planning Your Detox is for those of you who are thinking of going off sugar. Learn how to do it skillfully.

Working With Clients is for people in the helping professions. Let me show you key issues to consider in bringing the program to your patients or clients.

I have posted a new class schedule on line. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online with one lesson each day. You do not have to be at your computer at any set time.

And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant RecoveryŽ website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial for the Week**

Ok, so some of you may know I've started graduate school part time earlier this summer. It's 6 credits a trimester, and I've never done that much school before while also working full time. I knew this would be an adjustment and I knew that my journal would be more important then ever at this time. So image my surprise with I felt BE lows with no clue in my journal! I was weepy for a few days, fine for a day, weepy again, etc. It was frustrating and I was just about to call Kathleen for help when a voice in my head said "hey, what about adding MORE protein in your meals?".

I wasn't eating less, I wasn't restricting, but I know that in times of stress I sometimes need to eat more browns. This wasn't stress like I've had before so more browns didn't seem to fit, but more protein, now there's a novel idea... So that day I went to buy my lunch out, and I got a nice big tuna steak. I kid you not, 4 hours after lunch I felt the doldrums lift. Literally it was like a switch had been turned and I felt myself flood back into, well me LOL. Ever since that meal I've aimed towards getting a half serving more of good dense protein and ever since that meal I've felt like my stable capable awesome self. The power of protein!

I think there are a few good lessons here for me, the first is, because I was prepared to accept that things may be stressful I was able to be more observant of the factors. The second is a journal is a useful tool, but sometimes you need to use it and look beyond it to see--it wasn't what was IN my journal, but what WASN'T in my journal.

And that's my Heather story for the day, LOL

**Recipe of the Week**

I saw this great recipe and adapted it for us. It sounded like a great dessert for the kids! (big kids, too (grin>).

Frozen Fruit Kebabs

  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 16 medium strawberries, hulled
  • 16 (2-inch) chunks cantaloupe
  • 2 large bananas, peeled and sliced crosswise into 16 pieces
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened, shredded coconut
  • 1/4 cup ground or finely chopped nuts
Mix the orange juice and all the fruit and toss together with a spoon to completely coat the fruit. Skewer the fruit in any order that you like on 4 separate skewers. Roll the skewered fruit in the ground coconut and nuts. You can mix the coconut with the nuts or keep them separate. You may need to use your fingers to help coat the fruit. Line a baking sheet with parchment pape! r. Lay the skewered fruit out on the baking sheet and cover with a sheet of plastic wrap. Freeze the fruit until completely firm. Serve frozen.

If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun. It is not too late to get into the classes if you come right now.

**David's Corner **

Allergy season is here! If you are sniffing and snorting and itching and complaining, get some fish oil. It stops allergies at the cause by changing the reactivity in your body. What folks are telling us is that the combination of the fish oil and the pycnogenol is awesome. The pycnogenol protects from any bruising that comes with the blood thinning effects of the fish oil.

EPA capsules are a concentrated, odor free, certified heavy metal option for adults. They allow you to get more concentrated EPA without extra Vitamiin A.

We have DHA for those of you who are pregnant or nursing. DHA is the fatty acid that is used to make your baby's brain. It is very important in the first three years of life.

We also have DHA Jr. for children. It has a higher percentage of DHA and comes in very easy to swallow (or chew) little perls.

And we also carry a very tasty cod liver oil (yes, it IS tasty!) for those of you would like to just put it in your shake or who need a larger dosage. We also have this is single packages to use when you are traveling.

Kathleen also gives this to her dogs as well and they have NO skin problems.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**The Values of Radiant RecoveryŽ **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I suspect that many of of you may not think about what is behind our community. Who are we? What are we about? This is way more than responding to a collection of books. Radiant RecoveryŽ is a community, grown by a group of volunteer liaisons under my leadership. We meet every week. We talk, we sort things out, we work to continue to foster and grow the vision of a highly functional, creative healing place. Some of us have been working together for more than five years. It only gets better and better.

Here are the values we operate with:

  1. Commitment to the vision. We believe that the Radiant RecoveryŽ program offers a life changing solution for the problem of sugar sensitivity and are willing to change our food, change our lives and share the vision with others.

  2. Simplicity. We will provide solutions to sugar sensitivity that are easy to understand and implement.

  3. Respect. We will recognize the individuality and unique differences of each person doing the program by reinforcing the unique, individually tailored aspect of the food plans.

  4. Listening. We will acknowledge that the most powerful definition of our success comes from those using the services and products we offer.

  5. Integrity. We deliver the promises we make. We say what we mean and we mean what we say.

  6. Compassion. We encourage self-awareness and empowerment in our community members by providing information in a non-judgmental way and remembering our own journeys.

  7. Empowerment. Rather than offering directions, we will provide tools that enable members to find the way out of chaos, feeling stuck and overwhelmed into a sense of clarity, focus and direction. We will work to teach rather than tell.

  8. Modeling. Our leadership will commit to living our values, working the program and being fully accountable for the quality of their own recovery. We will walk our talk.

  9. Responsibility. We will take responsibility for how we do business. We commit to being culturally and linguistically sensitive to the range of interests, concerns and backgrounds of our members.
At any rate, I am inviting you to participate and share in the development of this vision. If you have ideas and comments or thoughts or critique, email me. I will take your feedback, put it up on the web and we can all talk about it. get how this works, we can start making choices for healing.
