Hi {!firstname_fix}

OK, I think we have all caught our breath from the Obesity Myth Class. My goodness, what a powerful experience that was. It certainly rattled some core assumptions I had and I know it really affected a number of you. Thank you so much for being a part of transforming our world view. It has really shaped how I am developing the YLD class material. I will comment more on that down in the YLD section.

I think most of you realized that we had a major problem with Yahoo servers this week. It disrupted emails from all our online lists and the class lists. Thank you for your patience and humor with the *black out*.

We will be starting these new classes the week of 1/31. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Anxiety is a fun class offering. We actually will be looking at anxiety, panic and phobia. And since I have found some new info, we will be also tying this into gut and bowel stuff as well. Come learn the chemical causes of these issues. Find out why anxiety is not a character flaw that you can will away. If you deal with it, or you have someone in your family or a child who is fearful, this is the class for you.

Brain Chemistry Beta Endorphin for Alcholics is a unique sort of class. If you wonder if you have a problem or if you know you have a problem with alcohol, come find out what is going on biochemically.

Step 1: The Art of Breakfast is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start.

YLDweightlossreadiness is the new getting started class for YLD members. We are really excited to do this new format. Come learn how Phase One of your program sets the foundation for your entire weight loss plan. I will be doing Weight Loss in Action starting 2/14.

We will be starting these new classes the week of 02/07. I am doing a light schedule because I will be going back up to Hopi to do some training. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Doing the Program on a Budget is special free class for those of you with limited funding who are trying to make do. Come hear some fun ideas to maintain your humor and find tasty and inexpensive solutions.

I have posted a new class schedule on line. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online with one lesson each day. You do not have to be at your computer at any set time.

And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery® website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

Resting when you are tired may seem like an outrageous idea, but learning to take care of your body is the focus of your path to recovery.

** Testimonial for the Week**

Last Saturday my six year old grandson told me I used to walk like a gorilla and now I walk like a cheetah. He said I am really fast now. It really surprised me that a child that young would notice and comment on how fast I walk.

**Recipe of the Week**

When I saw this recipe in the Radiant Recipes Cookbook, I thought they would be super duper yummy topped with "maple butter", which is butter mixed up with some maple extract . Of course, you can top them with whatever you like!

Butternut Squash and Pumpkin Pancakes

  • 1/2 c. pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/2 c. cooked butternut squash, mashed
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 c. milk (cow, oat, or soy)
  • 1 c. oat flour
  • 1 c. brown rice flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • butter or oil for griddle
Combine pumpkin, squash, eggs, and milk in a medium-sized bowl. In a separate bowl, stir together the flours, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix well. Heat griddle or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly coat with butter or oil. Pour 1/4 cup of batter per pancake and cook 2 to 3 minutes, until bubbles form on surface. Flip and continue to cook about 3 minutes more. Serve hot with favorite toppings. Makes 4 servings.

**Your Last Diet: More Than What You Think**

For those of you who have recently joined YLD, please make a point to join the YLDweightlossreadiness class. For those of you who started earlier, we have left you in the class for the revised edition. I have completely revised and updated the class to incorporate many of the concepts we talked about in the Obesity Myth class.

I am really, really stoked about the changes. I hope you are as well.

If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you are ready to change your life or just plain ole have fun.

**David's Corner **

I think many of you who attend chats heard Kathleen talk about her rescue dog, Spencer. When he arrived he was the BIGGEST Golden Retriever I have ever seen. He weighed 151 pounds! He could only walk about 10 feet before he had to stop and lie down. And he had arthritic stiffness so bad that she had to help him up by putting a towel under his stomach and hoisting him.

She started him on Cetyl M Joint Action. She also started him on YLD, LOL. In 2 weeks, he was up and walking. Not far, but walking. A month later, he had lost 20 pounds and was going for a walk ever day. Allison lives in Albuquerque and she really loves rescue dogs. She started taking him on special walks. The early ones were out to the end of the driveway. Last week he was going down to the park at a pretty fast clip with his tail up and Allison following. I think Joint Response is a wonder drug for dogs. If your dog is stiff, try this product. It is waaaay better than glucosamine.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**The Power of Our People**
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I am going back up to Hopi next week. I will be thinking about these same things once again. I thought it would be nice to reprint this article from a while ago:

As you know I was up in Washington a few weeks ago at a tribal gathering of the Lummi Nation. This week I have just come home from White Earth, which is the home of the Annishinabe people, also known as Ojibwes and Chippawa. I had been invited and gone to speak about our work. But something happened while I was there. The experience of being in the culture moved me deeply.

The nations have a *people* who have been connected and share a heritage and culture and land. American white people do not have a people in this way. Most of my life I have thought about my family history and how it shaped me.

But when I was with the native people, I thought about our community in a different way. We come together because we share a biochemistry. We have a *family* of shared experience; the pain of being outside, of not being understood, of trying to make sense of things and feeling that we cannot find our way.

We come here, and something happens. It is not obvious right away. It feels comfortable and welcoming, but we don't realize that something is changing - some sort of rooting in our healing. When I sign books, I often write *Let radiance wrap you and hold you*...this is something I mean and something I have experienced. But the meaning of that idea, of this as radiance wrapping our people, is bigger than any of us imagined.

Listen to Ted. His letter is like thousands I get each year. This is your community, your healing. And every day I give thanks to the creator for it!

Warmly,
Kathleen

Hi all, my name is ted... and I'm not new to this program, only this part of it. For me this program is not about God, it's not about why it took 64 yrs to get here, or the horrible pain I've endured over the years. It's about getting another chance to get it right. It's all about the food. If I get the food right my life will unfold the way it was supposed to. By doing the food my mind is clearing, the mental pain has stopped and my knees have stopped burning. I don't know why I'm here now, with you all, or why it took so long for me to find out what was wrong with me. I'm here now and that's all that matters. After 50+ yrs of knowing something was wrong with me I finally have the answer. I never stopped searching, not ever. I went to AA and got sober, I went to Christian crusades and got saved, and I tried every diet and self help program I could get my hands on……and nothing worked, not for long anyway……and lo and behold I stumbled onto this simple program. Tried it once and failed, but for some reason I returned and I finally GOT IT……it's the food…I am a sugar addict and if I do the food right I am right. I have never experienced a change the likes of which I am going through now. I have embraced this program with every ounce of my being and will never look back. My on-going recovery has been in direct proportion to my obedience to this simple program. The better I work it the better I feel. I don't really know how I got here but I am thankful I'm here and here I'll stay…just doing the food and smiling……hugs to all ted
