Hi {!firstname_fix}

Well all rightie. All those baby dogs are in their new homes. I know you are hearing about some of them on the lists as proud mammas report on babies, LOL.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online and you do not have to be at your computer at any set time. It does not matter whether you are in the US, Europe, the Far East or Australia, you simply respond on your own time. And although I advertise that the classes are one or two weeks, sometimes we are a little flexible and they may run longer.

And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant RecoveryÆ website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,

The fun thing will be to see how your feelings emerge as you do the program.

** Testimonial for the Week**

Delse, Step 7

Just wanted to share some good news. I had my annual physical today, including a fasting lipids test. The results came back great -- total cholesterol down about 30 points, hdl up, triglicerides down, hdl/ldl ratio better than the average. Significant progress.

This is especially exciting for me, because at least five of my siblings are on medication for high cholesterol. I just turned 50 and had fairly high readings two years ago, so I figured my turn was up. In addition, I am on the heavy side of my weight range.

In the past, my lipid profile reflected my weight -- weight up, cholesterol up. Weight down, cholesterol down. But not this time. But in the past, I NEVER gave up the sugar, the whites, etc. I just dieted.

So, what do I attribute it to? Without a doubt this program. This just validates for me the concept that you heal the sensitivity, and you heal the body. I don't have to be at my goal weight to gain the health benefits.

Meditation, lots of walking and garden vegetables don't hurt, either.

Thanks for listening.

**Radiant Kitchen**

By Naomi Muller, Step 7, author of Nutritious and Delicious Cookbook.

Here is another great recipe from the Radiant Recipes Cookbook. This is perfect for those hectic mornings when you want a really good stick to your ribs breakfast but don't have a lot of time. If you are a big one like me, you can eat this in addition to some other protein source or you could add some George Restore to the eggs to make up your 42 grams of protein.

Easy Egg and Oat One-Pan Breakfast

  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 c. milk or yogurt
  • 1 c. oats
  • 1 small apple, diced
Cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste Beat the eggs; stir in the milk or yogurt. Add oats, apple, nutmeg and cinnamon. Cook like a pancake or scramble in an oiled skillet. Makes one serving.

Time for Back to school supplies! Journals are good. Journals and Notebooks are even better!

I know some of you have been looking for ways to keep additional information in your journal without "cluttering" the important information so that it's still easy to review patterns, etc.

A couple of days ago I placed an order through the RR store, and it arrived today . . . felt like Christmas morning! lol Anyway, one of the things I ordered was the set of Moleskin Notebooks. If you haven't seen them, they come 3 to a pack. These notebooks are really nice. They are thin enough to fit right inside of the Your Body Speaks journal, they are just a tiny bit narrower than the journal so it is concealed within the journal and not sticking out, they are college ruled (which I really like) and they have a pocket on the inside back cover. It's a very compact way to have additional space. I'm really pleased with it and just thought I'd share this information since it may be helpful to others.

Have a great day!

Susan

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Our Online Groups**

The Radiant Journal list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

**Vitamins**
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

The vitamins you start taking in Step 4 will be helpful, but donít forget that the most crucial element of this program is eating food. Food provides vitamins naturally and promotes healing. Preparing food and meals provides much more than that. Buying, preparing and eating nutritious food requires specific behavior changes and makes you become conscious about what you are eating. Most people who have relied on sugar for a long time have very little experience with the type of behavioral change required for planning meals. Doing your food plan calls for you to make plans for regular meals and follow through on them. It means learning to devise alternative plans of action (like figuring out what and when to eat when your schedule suddenly changes), which reinforces flexibility and creative problem-solving. Doing a full food plan rather than just taking vitamins and hoping they will make you healthy also teaches you to make discriminating judgments about what is good specifically for you. All of these things are incredibly self-empowering.

As you will see, what you initiate with the food plan will have a far bigger impact than just eating three times a day. You will learn to pay attention to your body in a consistent way and make a connection between how you feel and what you are eating. As your food gets stable, you will become more and more interested in what works for your body and your needs. As you eat three meals a day at regular intervals and take your vitamins, you may find yourself getting impatient. This happened with a client of mine named Mary.

Mary had been doing her food journal and eating three meals pretty much every day. But she was getting impatient. She wanted to go faster. She wanted to do the rest of the steps right away. She was even ready to completely stop using sugar, she told me. And couldnít she also stop using caffeine now, she asked. Mary felt she was done with Steps 1 and 2. She didnít want to keep her food journal anymore because she was eating three meals most days. She wanted to be in charge of her own plan.

Mary confronted me with a dilemma. I wanted to support her in taking charge of her own process but at the same time I knew from my work with other clients how important it is to follow the steps in sequence. I stuck to my guns. I encouraged Mary to continue her food journal and master having three meals every single day before she made any other changes. I knew that doing this would create the stability Mary needed for making the changes called for in Steps 3 through 7. Skip the first two steps ó or stop doing them ó and the process will not work.

Remember, it absolutely does not matter how long it takes to master each of these steps. You, like Mary, will get to negotiate the order in which you make change after you have done the first three steps. But always begin with the journal and keep doing it. It is your key to understanding where you started. Without a food journal, the process is just talk. It is a waste of your time to try to do the whole program and the changes it involves without doing the journal. You will not have to do a journal forever, but having it by your side as you master your food plan adds a crucial and powerful tool to your work.
