Hi {!firstname_fix}

Oh, we have been having pumpkin talk. I think my Halloween edition got you all excited. Our folks in Europe are now scouring the land for pumpkins and debating which can be eaten. I love this time of year. It is cooler in the morning and the light is different. I will get a pumpkin when I get back from Euroranch. I got a little pumpkin carving tool. I think we will post pictures of our carvings, LOL.

These classes will begin the week of September 24, 2007. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 5: Browning Your Family is one of our favorites. Learn the art of whole grains. Get lots of information that you won't find anywhere else. I picked the brains of one of the world's leading *brown* experts for this class.

Radiant Store Tour is a free guided tour of the store. David will be leading this class so if you want to get to know the guy that makes it all work, come sign up. This is his first teaching experience, so you can show your support for the work he does to keep you happy.

There will be no classes the week of October 1, 2007.

These classes will begin the week of October 8, 2007. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Brain Chemistry: Serotonin is the other of our most popular classes. It helps you make sense of why the potato works, why you have a problem in the winter and how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can play into this. If you munch in your mind, if you are depressed or edgy or feel sad, this is the class for you.

What Else is Embedded in the Steps is a MUST for every person starting and working on the steps. Come take this class to learn how the PROCESS affects you. It is fun, it is eye opening and you will have a blast. If you want to get a particularly powerful impact, order the Ranch 2007 CD as well. It tracks along with the content of this class.

Step 1: The Art of Breakfast is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start.

The class schedule is on line. Click here to see what is planned. I have scheduled through February so you can plan ahead too. Please do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled, and wait until about two weeks before a class is scheduled to sign up for it.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online and you do not have to be at your computer at any set time. It does not matter whether you are in the US, Europe, the Far East or Australia, you simply respond on your own time. And although I advertise that the classes are one or two weeks, sometimes we are a little flexible and they may run longer.

And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery® website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial for the Week**

On Beginner’s Mind....I have recently commited to going through the steps again with beginner's mind. What I mean by that is being teachable. I want to go where the new people are and read their posts and really hear what they are experiencing. I want to look at each step with my experience sort of set aside while I look at being taught the step and then integrate that with my experience.

I don't know if that makes sense when I write it out. I agree it is difficult to explain but I know what I mean. (smile)

**Radiant Kitchen**

By Naomi Muller, Step 7, author of Nutritious and Delicious Cookbook.

This is a really great wrap from my cookbook, perfect for lunch or a light dinner or even cut up small for snacks or appetizers.

SPICY CHICKEN WRAPS

  • 1-1/2 pounds skinned, boned chicken breast, cut into 1/2-inch strips
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. light tasting olive oil
  • 1-1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (or Sour Supreme if you keep kosher)*
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp. minced fresh parsley
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 4 (8") whole wheat, corn or brown rice tortillas
  • 3 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1-1/3 cups chopped seeded tomato
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and diced (optional)
Combine the chili powder, oil, cumin and chicken in a heavy-duty zip- top plastic bag, seal and shake to coat. Combine the sour cream with next 5 ingredients in a small bowl and whisk. Sauté chicken in oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes or until chicken is done. Add the sour cream mixture; cover and cook 1 minute. Remove from heat. Warm the tortillas according to the package directions. Spoon about 3/4 cup chicken mixture onto each tortilla, and top each serving with 3/4 cup chopped lettuce and 1/3 cup chopped tomatoes (and 1/2 of a jalapeno pepper, if desired). Roll up wrap.

*Note: You can substitute plain yogurt for the sour cream

**Radiant Recovery Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery Store. He is also Kathleen’s oldest son.

This week is oatcake week. If you haven’t tried the new cheesy oatcakes, get them now. I have been taking them to practice for the girls to have after school. They are perfect with string cheese and some juice. Even Madison likes them, LOL and she be picky. And I know that Kathleen is going to get some more oatcake holders when she goes to England. I can just see her big full of them. If you order 5 or more of the oatcakes, I will add a free holder.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Before and After**
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

When we did a seminar in Boulder, we had a lot of fun with looking at some 'before' and'after' portraits. I think you will enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed hearing it.

How we were before starting the program:

First, the physical and emotional issues we had:
  • Weight
  • Brain fog
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Clutter
  • Other addictions
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Problems with relationships
  • ADD
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Procrastination
  • PMS
  • OCD
  • Menopause
  • Unreliability
Some of the things we did or struggled with:
  • Lying
  • Manipulation
  • Denial
  • Inadequacy
  • Hopelessness
  • Stubbornness
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Being slippery
  • Feeling Stupid
  • Being reckless
  • Having no boundaries
  • Being rigid
  • Being selfish
  • Being sloppy
  • Feeling needy
  • Feeling clingy
  • Whining all the time
Now, the interesting thing is that everyone reported that these things had changed. They just were not an issue.

I was recently challenged on a parents’ blog. The moderator said that the 92% success rate I reported in my dissertation was BS. This made me laugh. In fact, if I had not been there, I would not have believed it either. That was twelve years ago. Now we have more. Now we have all your stories. And I totally understand that no one who had not lived this would believe claims that changing your food would do this stuff. But you know as well as I do, it does. Many years ago I decided not to waste time on 'defense' but to spend my energy in supporting what I KNOW is transformative. This is why we have a newsletter every week, why we hold classes and have liaisons for every list. Why more than 50 people spend hours and hours each week being present to your journey.

Anyway, there is more. Here is the list of the things that you reported came to you as you progressed through the steps:
  1. I started telling wonderful stories about my healing.
  2. I became resourceful
  3. I got good boundaries
  4. I started having influence
  5. I got people skills
  6. I learned about tenacity
  7. My creativity started flowing
  8. I became fun loving
  9. I learned to share and love it.
  10. I make connections
  11. I have empathy
  12. I am appropriate sensitive and in touch
  13. I am intuitive
  14. I am willing to go to any lengths for recovery
All these things had happened with me. I thought it was just personal. Then some more folks were reporting the same journey. A few became a hundred. A hundred became thousands. I think breakfast works.
