Hi {!firstname_fix}

The man who plows the driveway is tired of the snow. He thinks it is wet and ugly and dirty now. He feels badly at taking more money from me. This afternoon another storm rolled in with big, fat snowflakes that are covering wet and ugly. I still love the quiet.

Last night I had a special dinner with good friends. The restaurant is known for its food. Fresh greens in a delicate salad, exquisite scallops and then rich decaf. Good food and good company makes a winter night quite sweet.

I had visitors for a couple of days. A five year old and a toddler. It was amazing to discover how kind my dogs were with little ones. Ronan would look at me while he was being climbed on. I would send a message, 'it's fine..', and he would do a big dog sign, roll his eyes and just wait patiently. That would be the best of golden retriever, I would say.

We have pretty much recuperated from the Brain class and the Introvert class. I think a sizable chunk of the community had a cognitive rearrangement in the last few months, LOL. Now, back to regular stuff for a bit. (smile)

These classes will begin the week of March 5, 2008. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Back to Basics 1 is our map back to steady for folks who got up to step 6/7 and then forgot. This is a very caring and focused way to see what happened and to get back on track. This is only for people who were detoxed and then got lost.

Brain Chemistry: Beta Endorphin is the core class for sugar sensitives interested in the brain chemistry that affects why we are the way we are. If you are new to the program, this is a wonderful tool for learning.

Using the Resources of the Community is for those of you who are brand new and would like to find your way around town. Come sit on the top of our double decker bus for a guided tour. And even if you are not brand new, this is a really fun class to reconnect with all the treats of the community.

These classes will begin the week of March 12, 2008. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

New Science is a class to learn about new science affecting sugar sensitivity, sugar addiction and other issues affecting us. I was over looking at what is being published and got really excited. I thought you would love to hear some of the lab stuff that is happening. I figure if it excites me, it is going to excite you

Step 7: Radiant Life is for those of you who want to know what life on the other side of detox is and how it unfolds. We will be looking at some of the issues and excitements.

Step 2 Journal: An Introduction will teach you the basics of journaling. The class will give you step by step instructions in how to record your food and feelings in a way that gets you excited.

Radiant Store Tour is a free guided tour of the store. David will be leading this class so if you want to get to know the guy that makes it all work, come sign up. This is his first teaching experience, so you can show your support for the work he does to keep you happy.

The class schedule is on line. Click here to see what is planned. Please do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. The classes are done online and you do not have to be at your computer at any set time. It does not matter whether you are in the US, Europe, the Far East or Australia, you simply respond on your own time. And although I advertise that the classes are one or two weeks, sometimes we are a little flexible and they may run longer.

And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Please feel free to pass this week's newsletter on to your friends and family. Don't forget to let me know what you like and would like to see me cover.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery¨ website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial for the Week**

I haven't had a serious sugar craving or impulse since detoxing in June of 2005. Sugary things look dead to me. When they start to stir, I pay attention. It usually means I am not eating enough or on time, or that I've had a super-long travel day. No big deal, but I pay attention. I eat, I rest, I get back on schedule.

I am very grateful for these little signs.

Jeannie

**Radiant Ambassadors**

Have you read the new Potatoes not Prozac? How has reading it changed things for you? Is it easy to read and written with a lot of heart? I know from my own personal point of view that it has changed everything for me.

As Ambassadors, we’re trying to get the word out about the books that are changing thousands of peoples lives around the world. One of the best ways to do this is to get as many people as possible to review Kathleen’s books on Amazon, especially the new Potatoes not Prozac. You can review it on the US site or the UK site or any other site they have going LOL. Why not have a look at the reviews that have already been submitted and see if it gives you some ideas:

Amazon.com reviews:

Amazon.co.uk reviews:

It would also be really useful if you could rate the reviews that have already been written. That way people will get to know that our reviews are great :)

So what do you reckon, do you want to help get the word out there?

Selena

Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news.

**Radiant Kitchen**

By Naomi Muller, Step 7, author of Nutritious and Delicious Cookbook.

When I took the step 5 browns class, I felt so inspired to try out different kinds of browns. Here is a recipe that I invented after that class. My kids just love it and ask for it often!

BANANA COCONUT PUDDING

  • 3 cups oat milk (or regular milk or other milk substitute)
  • 3/4 cup millet
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 1 ripe banana, pureed in food processor or blender
  • 1 tsp. alcohol-free vanilla extract
Bring oat milk to a boil, add millet and salt and cover. Simmer on low for 40 minutes. Turn off heat and leave sitting for 30 minutes. Add the coconut, banana and vanilla, stirring well. Pour into 6 custard cups and serve hot or warm (do NOT serve it chilled - yech!)

David manages the Radiant Recovery Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Many people have asked me about Omega 3 fatty acids and the value of taking fish oil. I asked Kathleen to write something for all of you.Click here to read her suggestions. And, of course, we carry great fish oil options.

Epa capsules are a concentrated, odor free, certified heavy metal option for adults. They allow you to get more concentrated EPA without extra Vitamiin A.

We have DHA for those of you who are pregnant or nursing. DHA is the fatty acid that is used to make your baby's brain. It is very important in the first three years of life.

We also have DHA Jr. for children. It has a higher percentage of DHA and comes in very easy to swallow (or chew) little perls.

And we also carry a very tasty cod liver oil (yes, it IS tasty!) for those of you would like to just put it in your shake or who need a larger dosage. Kathleen gives this to her dogs as well and they have NO skin problems. CLO is a great alternative for those of you who are in perimenopause and may be dealing with heavy bleeding. (sorry for a guy to speaking of a delicate subject). Ask Kathleen for more information on that one.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Our Online Groups**

The Radiant Journal list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

**The Anxious Brain**
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

A number of new people have come into the community and talked about dealing with anxiety. They don't know how to cope with feeling so anxious while they are waiting to work the food steps. I can feel the anxiety rising each time an old-timer encourages them to be patient, the food will help. So I thought it might be fun to offer you some other tools, tools for while you are waiting.

A. Doing the food.
For those of you who do not know what that means - it is code for doing the 7 steps of the program. Go to www.radiantrecovery.com to read them. Best of all get a copy of the latest edition of Potatoes Not Prozac.

B. Increasing your muscles.
This means more than walking. It means working out. Check out a gym while you are waiting. If you don't have one, or can't afford one, start climbing stairs. If you can't do that, lift weights. If you don't have weights, use cans. Lift bags of dog food, bales of hay, whatever you can find (smile). Building muscle decreases anxiety.

C. Meditating.
Sit quietly for 20 minutes twice a day. If you don't have any experience with this, start with 5 minutes. No interruptions. No cats on your head or dogs in your lap or children knocking at the door or people wanting to chat. Do not fret if your mind goes on high. Just sit. No music, no meditation tapes, nothing sexy. Just be quiet.

D. Listen to music.
Choose things like Mozart or Bach or music with a strong rhythm. Do not listen to heavy metal. It will add to your disassociation. Do not use new age music that just sort of flows. You want something with an underlying rhythm that you can hear.

E. Smell Good Stuff
I am not kidding, LOL. Find real nice smells, not chemical smells. Cooking food, roses, flowers, clean dogs..oops, my bias just snuck in there, LOL, hand cream.

These all have a huge impact on your anxious brains. . And if you are not anxious, but just want to feel better early on, add any of them in now.
