January 19, 2009

Hi {!firstname_fix}

I am home from my trip. I learned a lot about Florida history. That was fascinating. I had a good time. And I am very glad to be home with my dogs and the mountain. We went to Whole Foods, got good stuff, then went to the pet store and got raw bones. Everyone was happy. Now is a settling in time. Last year I was in Maine in the snow and ice. This year I was out in the garden cleaning up. And there are tiny buds on the trees. The sky is pink now, the mountain mauve. This works for me.

I wanted to alert you to the fact that Southwest is having some fabulous airfares right now through May. Also the fares to Europe are REALLY low right now. So if you have been thinking about Ranch, it is a good time to sign up. This year's Ranch is going to be very special. I am planning to present some very new information that I think will shape all of us as we do our programs. It will be wonderful for new people and for old timers. Come check out our Ranch info and then ask on the forum if you have questions.

These classes will begin Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 3: Radiant Step 3 (1 week) is one of our core classes. This is a skills-based class. If you want to learn the baby steps of a successful step 3, come join us. I have also revised this curriculum. Lots of new ideas for 2009! This class is ALWAYS fun. Come join us even if you feel you are set for step 3. It can be a wonderful tuneup.

Anxiety (2 weeks) is one of our newest class offerings. We actually will be looking at anxiety, panic and phobia. And since I have found some new info, we will be also tying this into gut and bowel stuff as well. Come learn the chemical causes of these issues. Find out why anxiety is not a character flaw that you can will away. If you deal with it, or you have someone in your family or a child who is fearful, this is the class for you.

YLD Weight Loss Readiness (2 weeks) is the getting-started class for YLD members. We are really excited to do this new format. Come learn how Phase One of your program sets the foundation for your entire weight loss plan.

These classes will begin Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 4: Radiant Step 4 (1 week) is the potato class. Come learn everything you ever wanted to know about the timing, size, frequency of your potato. Learn about the best vitamins and talk all you want about them. This is a nice way to strengthen and refine your step 4.

Using The Resources of The Community (1 week) is for those of you who are brand new and would like to find your way around town. Come sit on the top of our double-decker bus for a guided tour. And even if you are not brand new, this is a really fun class to reconnect with all the treats of the community.

If you are on disability or low income (your household income is less that $1000 a month), you may take classes for free if you get certified. I have put the guidelines for certification on the class schedule page.

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned. Please do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial of the Week **

Hi all! I am back for round 2. I started on Step 1 back in July and stayed on board 'til October. I never could get my breakfast right and ended up frustrated and quitting. I started back on Step 1 a couple weeks ago. I decided to try Restore and I just want to say this is the greatest breakfast that I've tried! It holds me and keeps me stable and I don't have cravings at night. My search is over and I'm about ready for Step 2. So, I just wanted to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Kathleen for making this product, it has saved my breakfast!! Yahhhhh!!!!!!! I don't know what I would do without it. I had tried several PP's and never found one that would hold me. So, anybody out there looking for a good breakfast that will hold them, try RESTORE!!

** Radiant Ambassadors **

Our very own Kat has written a wonderful article for her local newspaper (The Journal, WV) entitled "It is what it is". It details how she managed to escape from 'diethead' after finding out about sugar sensitivity and doing the Radiant Recovery program. If you want to see the article in full, come on over to the Ambassador's list!

Come join us if you are excited about spreading the news.

Cottage Apple Bake

Ingredients:
  • 6 small, sweet apples, sliced very thin (the recipe calls for peeled, but I don't peel 'em)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup cottage cheese (calls for lowfat, but regular works fine)
  • 1/3 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • dash salt
Directions:
  1. Place apples and water in a large nonstick skillet. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes, until apples are slightly tender. Remove from heat.
  2. Preheat over to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
  3. In a blender container (or food processor), combine eggs, cottage cheese, dry milk, vanilla, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  4. Spread apples evenly in the bottom of an 8-inch square baking pan that has cottage cheese mixture evenly over apples. Sprinkle with additional cinnamon if desired.
  5. Bake, uncovered, 25 minutes, until set. Chill.
Makes 6 servings

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

As you may realize, the postal service is increasing shipping costs today. I will just pass that on in our rates without any added mark up. As always, I want you to have the best service possible. I think that our use of priority mail is one of the reasons our shipping works so well.

Also, a special thanks to all of our subscribers who were hit with our database snafu. This was the most complex cleanup I have had to do with the store. I really, really appreciate your graciousness as we sorted it out. I have spent many hours with the programmer to make sure that NEVER happens again.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

** Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Journal list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

Or come to the group page to find the one that will best support your program: http://www.radiantrecovery.com/list_serves.htm

** Welcome Newcomers **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

We have had many new people come into the community since the beginning of the new year. This is always very exciting. I thought it would make sense to speak a little to how you can maximize your time here, not be overwhelmed and really have fun.

It is exciting to get connected and easy to want to go everything all at once.

But taking your time and savoring the process will work best. Join the step one list. Take the step one class. Take the free orientation classes. They will help you find your way around the site and learn how to manage yahoo without being spooked.

Check out the community forum. Don’t try to read the whole thing. Just pick a thread that sounds interesting and read that. If you are on a list and feel overwhelmed, change your settings to “daily digest” and you will just get one summary email a day. As you get more relaxed, you can change back to individual emails and get the flavor of the ongoing conversation.

Learn who the leadership folks are by reading the link under “About Us” on the home page of radiantrecovery.com. Get to know their stories and then listen to their posts. Their experience and perspective can guide you. And, most important, share. Listen to the others who are learning. All of the wisdom that shapes this community comes from the dialogue of the people who are doing the program. Even your own early struggles help all of us remember why we are here and why we so much want to help.

The website will provide you with resources for years and years and you will NEVER be bored. We are delighted you are here!
