Hi {!firstname_fix}

It has been a week of a lot of soul searching. The addiction amoeba class is looking at lives in a very deep way. I am touched by the authenticity and honesty that is coming out of the sharing. Sometimes the power of this community just takes my breath away.

I saw a flock of robins today all chattering about spring. It made me smile.

These classes will begin Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Please click on the name of the class you wish to join and it will take you to the registration page:

If you don't have a journal, you have no record of your process. If you don't keep a journal, your body has no way to talk with you.

** Testimonial of the Week **

A few weeks ago we had a cooler week (in the middle of summer) and I ironed the (actually very long-term) accumulated clothing from the basket. It was good to have the clothes available again, not just keeping the ironing basket feeling nice and comfy for the cat to curl up, LOL. A few items of clothing at the bottom of the pile had been there for a long time (smile). They were retired...their fabric became new rags, and their buttons got donated to the sewing room. They have done so many wearings that they don't owe us anything. I hung the clothes according to colour and item (all the shirts together as a rainbow, all the trousers, etc.). It is lovely to look at.

I had a ruthless go-through of our other clothing too, and disposed of the things that no longer fit well, some of them to the rag bag, some to the op shop, some to other family members (my daughters were drooling over a t- shirt I had loved on the hanger at the op shop, but did not look good on me).

Then followed a shopping trip, because the clothes my DH and I have worn for ever so long really are very tired and wearing out. So with an *informed* idea of what we needed (not one based on what I thought we had) we went shopping. At real shops, not just cut price and charity places. It was a little bit scary, and quite exciting! A few finds which work really well together in lots of different ways made our few purchases into quite a few wearable combinations. It was fun sorting the things, hanging them in the newly orderly wardrobe. Really nice, new clothes which fit, and suit colourwise, breathe such a feeling of 'put together'. I like it!

And, LOL, by not buying the things that did not score a 5 out of 5, this is a marvelous feeling...I saved SO much! Lots of satisfaction for a few well -chosen garments is much better value for money!

** Radiant Ambassadors **

Do you ever search the internet for interesting blogs? Well, I do! I discovered a wonderful blog the other day. I have been reading it for a couple of weeks now and have been riveted as the blogger has not only mentioned Kathleen’s work but also her own journey together with her perception of the radiant community.

I thought it might be fun to share the link so that you can all hear what people are saying about this community:

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **

In 1999, a friend heard Kathleen being interviewed on Australian public radio about Potatoes not Prozac, and bought the book. She lived on a farm on high ground, and when our town was flooded, she took my family in. We lived with her for a fortnight or more.

I had long known that I had reactive hypoglycemia, and ate 6 small meals a day according to the conventional wisdom. Conventional wisdom also told me to avoid sugar and simple carbs, which I could not manage! It did not tell me to avoid sweet things, so (as I now know) in my intention to avoid sugar, I kept priming myself with sweeteners. My friend (well actually a friend of my parents) could also see that I was depressed and ill, and she knew that I had a huge gap between what I knew and what I was able to do. She saw me on each page, she offered me the loan of the book. If it had been nearly anyone else, I would have said, "No thanks, I am not interested." I had seen enough sensationalised snippets in magazines of the latest and greatest fad 'discovery' or 'breakthrough diet.' I did not want anything of the sort.

When I began reading, I found things which informed and intrigued me. The information that I recognised did not contradict what I already knew to be true for my body and how it differed from the 'textbook' approach I had learned when studying Nutrition at Uni. In fact this book filled out my own observations, gave me reasons for why I was different, and what I could do about it.

And the author invited questions and feedback!! I had to learn how to use email! But oh boy that was so worth it. Reading the book, putting into practice the changes I read there, applying the steps one at a time has changed my health, and that of my family. My mental health improved beyond measure too, as did my self esteem and I began to refresh my nutrition knowledge. I value the ongoing contact with this community both because it keeps my recovery alive, and because it gives me a place to give back, which is vital to my continuing growth.

So much more that I could write, but that is chapter two. This is how my recovery began...a friend who listened to the radio, bought a book and loaned it to me.

** Your Last Diet - More Than What You Think **

I went grocery shopping yesterday at the local supermarket. While I was standing in line, I was flipping through the National Enquirer to see what the latest gossip is. There was a picture of Michele Obama with her two children, both of whom are slender. The article was talking about her new war on OBESITY and her own decision about her children. She mentioned that she put her children on a diet after her pediatrician and their father felt they were getting "chubby." I have to admit that I was deeply disturbed by this message. I have some pretty strong feelings about *diets* and children and to send the message to young girls getting ready for puberty that you had better not get *chubby* is pretty ill-advised. All of what we are doing in YLD is to help you be free of this devastating cultural message and to be able to approach losing weight in a healthy, fun and skilled way.

If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you are ready to change your life or just have some plain ol' fun!

**The Calm **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

We have been talking a lot on the step six list on the time after detox. Often it feels “flat” because the spiky life that comes with addiction is quiet. Drama and chaos have faded. Regular life seems a little less exciting than expected.

Sometimes people are startled by this. They define it as “boring”.

Recently, someone name it THE CALM.

That is a wonderful image.

Seeking The CALM.

I think a lot of radiance is about fostering the CALM and then being filled with a sense of hope and optimism.

It definitely grows on you.
