December 13, 2010

Hi {!firstname_fix}

I went to hear The Messiah sung at the cathedral. What an experience that was! Beautiful music, probably my favorite of all music. I have been trying to get the reindeer and the lights coordinated to turn on at dusk and off at 10 PM. I pulled out all the little time pins and thought I had it right, but they were on at 5 AM when I went out the door. More work to be done.

The play class is continuing. Now we are working on the neurochemistry part. I so love learning new things, LOL.

Don't forget that our annual Ranch will come again in the spring (smile). If you want to get the early bird tuition rate, make sure to sign up before Jan 1. Go read about the logistics here. We will be returning to the Rio Grande Inn so everything will be way more cost effective. Love to have you!

This class will begin Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Holy Night (2 weeks) is reflection to help you shift gears into the real meaning of Christmas. There is no charge for this class. It is my pleasure to share this with you each year.

Addiction Amoeba: A New Look (2 weeks) is part of a new series on how the Addiction Amoeba can clobber us. So you have gotten the food steady and are ready to take a look at the other stuff - gambling, debt, shopping, work, money, sex, you name it. A tender look at the biochemistry of these and how doing the food is going to help all of them. I will share with you the wonderful process that we discovered last Fall during Euro Ranch.

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned.

Please wait to sign up for classes until a week or two before, and do not sign up for classes that are not yet scheduled.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

** Testimonial of the Week **

Lately, I have been aware of what seems to be a little step, but it is one that I am so grateful for. Before I started RR, and really through at least the first 6 or 8 months as I worked my way through the steps, my thinking in the morning was sooooooooooooo negative. I would wake up, and some horrible anxious thoughts would pop in my head, and that was it, that was how I started my day. No amount of effort to consciously change those thoughts really helped, and it was a very hard start to the day.

Now, a good six months into detox, I have realized that I am waking up and the first thing I think is "I love my life, thank you! (god, spirit, Love) I love you!" and then I start thinking about some interesting project I am working on, or something good that I am doing. This is not the result of effort, it just has started happening. I often walk around my house as I get coffee, etc., and spontaneously think "I love myself! I love my life! I love my body." It just happens now. It is just how I feel.

Whew. I think this might be the beginning of the biochemical self- esteem that Kathleen talks about. What a relief. How lovely.

Thank you Kathleen! for all your greatness and for sharing it. Thanks everyone here!

Hilda

** Radiant Ambassadors **

Have you read Potatoes not Prozac? How has reading it changed things for you? Is it easy to read and written with a lot of heart? I know from my own personal point of view that it has changed everything for me.

As Ambassadors, we’re trying to get the word out about the books that are changing thousands of people's lives around the world. One of the best ways to do this is to get as many people as possible to review Kathleen’s books on Amazon, especially Potatoes not Prozac. You can review it on the US site or the UK site or any other site they have going, LOL. Why not have a look at the reviews that have already been submitted and see if it gives you some ideas:

Amazon.com reviews:

Amazon.co.uk reviews:

It would also be really useful if you could rate the reviews that have already been written. That way people will get to know that our reviews are great :)

So what do you reckon, do you want to help get the word out there?

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi, I’m Irene from southern Louisiana . I’ve known I have a problem with sugar for quite a while and have struggled though all kinds of self-guided attempts to be ‘sugar free.’ I’ve also struggled with years of depression while on medication. I saw a reference to the ‘Potatoes Not Prozac’ book in an e-mailing from Beliefnet. Just reading the description of the book told me that this was the answer to my prayers! Long story short, I’m reading the book, starting step one, and hoping to discover more about the world of support on the website.

Salt Dough Fun with Cookie Cutters

Not sure about anyone else, but I have an abundance of cookie cutters from the "old" days, LOL! The kids and I started doing this about three years ago and it's become a holiday tradition for us. I love to get out my cookie cutters and use them this way. We have fun mixing them up, cutting them out and then decorating them together. :)

The dough is easy to work with and once they are dried, you can decorate them with paints, glue, glitter...whatever suits you! Can't remember where I got this recipe. I'm sure I just googled it.

Anyway, I have started putting a little wire U into the top of the ornaments before baking so they hang better, but it's just as fun to poke a little hole in the top and string through some yarn!

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup salt (fine works best)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Water-based paints
  • I also use a clear coat varnish that I got at the home store to make everything stick on and to preserve them a bit better, but it's not absolutely necessary.
Place dry ingredients in a bowl (I use food processor with the dough blade) and add the water and oil, then stir until blended. Once the dough holds together, make it into a ball and knead it with your hands to make a smooth texture.

Place the dough on a cutting board, and using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into a pancake shape that is a bit thicker than you would use for regular cut-out cookies (1/4 inch + maybe?). Cut out the ornaments with cookie cutters, design your own ornaments using a blunt knife, or shape dough with your fingers. Punch or carve a hole into the top of the ornament to thread a string through to hang the decoration. (I have some wire that I cut and make into a U shape and stick into the ornaments before I bake them so that I don't have to make holes.)

Bake at 250 degrees until hard (for one to two hours). Mine took longer than two hours. I turned them over to let them finish up once they were rock solid on the front.

Once cooled, paint, or glue on glitter using white household glue. Thread a string or ribbon through the hole and hang the decoration somewhere that makes you happy. We use them year after year and it's fun to see the progression!

Heidi

** Our Online Groups **

On our Radiant Fitness group we talk about how doing the food can support our fitness program and vice versa. Some favorite topics are what to eat when doing intensive exercise when all that's out there commercially are sugar-filled products. We also talk about what to eat before and after morning workouts, and what to do for those folks whose training program requires a twice a day workout.

We have runners walkers, bikers, dancers, aerobicizers, yogis, and many more types of exercise enthusiasts on the list. One of the neat things on the list is people who are recovering from exercise addiction who are learning how to work exercise back in their life in a healthy way. If any of this fits you, well, come on over and join in.

I get what you're saying. I read your post and it makes a lot of sense. I guess this kinda comes back to take your time and enjoy the ride. If all we are concerned with is getting to point *a* we miss the whole journey of getting there. I am quite guilty of that, I do that quite a lot with things in my life, and I believe to an extent that is why time seems to fly by for me, it is going way too fast. When I was building my business, I kept my eyes on the day of looking to when it would be built, and looking back I missed the whole building part which could've been fun. I am doing this same thing with the program, I keep looking at the day when I'm going to be really healed, and I am missing a lot of the journey. I'm glad you brought this up, it makes me aware of this, I need to flow more as you put it. I can see the need for a balance between the two.
Tom wrote this to one of the lists. I asked him if I could quote him because it really touched me. I think he is onto a key issue - spending time in the *process* of recovery rather than thinking about rushing to some end.

This means enjoying the art of step one when you are on step one. Really learning about breakfast, making things you really love, planning breakfast, finding a shake you really look forward to having, making a meal that suits you, having it on time and having it anywhere you might travel too.

Then, as you progress, you enjoy, truly enjoy the step you are on. This means thinking about journaling rather than about sugar. Or thinking about lunch rather than bingeing. Or about breakfast rather than being out of control.

This is actually the crux of the program - getting you latched on to the solution rather than swirling in the problem. Doesn’t this make sense?
