April 18, 2011

Hi {!firstname_fix}

Well, I am continuing to process the loss of my Josie. I wanted to give you a picture of her at her finest. This is Josie in my truck..Josie was a healer and made everyone she met feel understood and cared for. I had no idea the role she played in our *pack* but the other two stayed in the closet for 10 days. They are out now. And I am writing now, but it sure rocked all of us.

I got a letter from one of our members telling me that it was not so good that I had not let my classes know what was happening. She was right and I realize that I just sort of unraveled. I think this last month has made me realize that when we hurt most is when we are least able to articulate what we need to do.

I spoke with some of the mentors about what happened. Why did we not take care of this...and what we all realized is that everyone was connected to my Josie. Everyone knew her. It wasn't just like a *dog*, it was our dog, our healer who knew everyone's heart. I think the roll out of the tsunami, Ronan and then Josie just sort of took us over the edge collectively.

It has been humbling for me. I am sure that there are a number of things I have not done so well...and not just in the last few weeks. Sorting this out has been a task, LOL.

Of course there are a number of things that have been astounding. And sometimes the juxtaposition of the two has to be a little unnerving for all of you as well, LOL.

I hope you will be tender with me. The irony is that Josie's death seems to have reawakened my creative muse. I am writing again, and the next book is now flowing. I like this feeling. And I am working on regrouping so the things I am committed to I can do well.

We are cutting back on the classes so I can catch up. And I am learning to do less. Thanks for being willing to sort this all with me.

Ranch is almost upon us. We have just a few spots left. There are a whole number of new people coming so I think the energy will be fabulous...a sort of not to be missed combination of core learning and exploring the cutting edge of the teachings. I do hope you will come. There are some great airfares around as well.

** Quote From Kathleen **

When you feel your worst and can't cope with anything, just go back to eating breakfast with protein every day. It does work. It is what I have been doing, LOL.

** Testimonial of the Week **

For me radiance is about being able to find some joy in the world, being able to notice the beauty of things, inhaling the scents that are pleasant, feeling the textures that are soft and comforting, doing motions that are relaxing or invigorating i.e., dancing, walking, etc. It is being able to enjoy life and not be hampered by misery and drama etc.

** Radiant Ambassadors **

You may remember that last week the media was ablaze with research and stories of 'food addiction'.

That included Oprah's website as she is showing a series on being addicted to food. Several of us left messages on Oprah's website about the show. Someone responded to my post with the following:

"I agree with you. I think Dr Kathleen DesMaisons is definitely on to something. The Yale study [current research], hopefully, will be the tip of the iceberg."

I love it that people are not only listening but also willing to talk about it too. I think word is getting out!!

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi. My name is Nancy and I live in Dallas, Texas. I have tried to start the program several times but didn't get beyond step 2. I decided to enroll in classes this time to see if that helps me get farther. I found PNP years ago...I don't remember how, but I bought one of the first editions of Kathleen's book. Since I've been struggling with sugar for many years, I searched online a few years ago for sugar addiction and I found the website. I am currently enrolled in the Step1 class so I'm working my way through that.

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

So last week we added the Prime membership service. I am glad you are liking it. If you glossed over it, come see what you are missing.

And every once in a while, Kathleen will try out some new products. Maybe she went shopping to cope with stress, LOL. But the folks in the journal class were talking about finding a great handbag for Journals....so she found one. I agreed to do a pilot and try stocking them. See what you think.
Then, and this one is funny because I would NEVER have suggested it. You guys are gonna do the vote on it. She was in the store and found these packets of baby food and remembered that many of you add things like baby sweet potatoes to your shakes. That always seemed sort of strange to her. But they had this sweet potato and white bean one, she tried it in her shake and couldn't believe how it made her feel. Sooooo, I agreed we would try stocking them. I think they would be great for travel. And anyway, I know we can sell them at Ranch no matter what. But honestly, order a couple with your regular order and let me know what you think.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

** Radiant Kitchen **

I added a whole number of recipes for Teens into the recipe blog. Here is one of them...something THEY can make when ravenous. And it keeps really well. And reheats well. Make it with Tinkyada brown rice pasta and it is a 10!

See what you think.

SPAGHETTI PIE
  • 16 oz spaghetti (brown rice, spelt, or whole wheat) cooked
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • cottage cheese
  • ground beef
  • unsweetened marinara or spaghetti sauce
  • mozzarella cheese
Cook the spaghetti according to package directions and drain. At the same time, brown the ground beef, drain, and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a 13”x 9” greased pan, place the cooked spaghetti. In a small bowl, beat together the milk and eggs and pour over the spaghetti. Layer the cottage cheese over the spaghetti and then layer the ground beef over the cottage cheese. Spread the marinara or spaghetti sauce over the ground beef and top with mozzarella cheese.

Bake in the oven until hot, about 30 minutes.

** Radiant Conversations **

As I said in my first comments, it has been an astounding 2 weeks. I am revising YLD and conversations so they are both clearer. But, bottom line, you can join YLD right now and really just get the *conversations* part and come to chat. Chats are NOT about weight loss. The revised YLD will have special weight loss chats. But for now, chats are about healing and they are rocking.

If you are not a YLD member, come and join us. Click here if you want to be a part of the latest and greatest or just have some plain ol' fun!

** Our Online Groups **

Gaynor
The Brits list was originally set up as a geo list to provide support for those doing the food in Britain. But, over the past few years British involvement in the RR program has grown and grown and we now have a YLD Eurochat on Wednesday nights (UK time) and our very own Euroranch in Salisbury for anyone doing the program in Britain and Europe.
As a result of all of this, the Brits list has also grown a lot and is now a wonderfully fun place of support for anyone doing the programme in the UK. We talk about what it means to do the programme here, what different foods we eat, and how to translate American terms into British ones, and we also have lots of fun!! It is a great place, a very supportive group, full of wonderful people. We also have quite regular get-togethers, usually twice a year or so, mostly in London. The last couple have been at our favourite restaurant, Leon, where 15-20 of us happily take over their biggest table for several hours. They haven't complained yet, LOL.

So if you are a Brit and you are doing this programme, we'd love to have youe join us.

**Focus on the Steps **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I get what you're saying. I read your post and it makes a lot of sense. I guess this kinda comes back to take your time and enjoy the ride. If all we are concerned with is getting to point *a* we miss the whole journey of getting there. I am quite guilty of that, I do that quite a lot with things in my life, and I believe to an extent that is why time seems to fly by for me, it is going way too fast. When I was building my business, I kept my eyes on the day of looking to when it would be built, and looking back I missed the whole building part which could've been fun. I am doing this same thing with the program, I keep looking at the day when I'm going to be really healed, and I am missing a lot of the journey. I'm glad you brought this up, it makes me aware of this, I need to flow more as you put it. I can see the need for a balance between the two.
Tom wrote this to one of the lists. I asked him if I could quote him because it really touched me. I think he is onto a key issue - spending time in the *process* of recovery rather than thinking about rushing to some end.

This means, enjoying the art of step one when you are on step one. Really learning about breakfast, making things you really love, planning breakfast, finding a shake you really look forward to having, making a meal that suits you, having it on time and having it anywhere you might travel too.

Then, as you progress, you enjoy, truly enjoy the step you are on. This means thinking about journaling rather than about sugar. Or thinking about lunch rather than bingeing. Or about breakfast rather than being out of control.

This is actually the crux of the program - getting you latched on to the solution rather than swirling in the problem. Doesn’t this make sense?
