Hi {!firstname_fix}

We have rolled out the revised Your Last Diet program pretty easily. Go over to the home page of www.radiantrecovery.com and click on the weight loss link on the left there to get a sense of it. Next week we will start doing weight loss chats on Wednesday nights. I am excited about it.

You can also click on the conversations link on the left. If it doesn't show, refresh your browser. We are adding a new section in the newsletter for the Conversations program. I will do a little preview down there.

Also, I am going to be changing how you sign up for classes. Go ahead and sign up for the classes you are interested in even if they are not on the schedule. I will watch what happens with the numbers. If there are 10 people waiting, I will put the class on the schedule. And that includes the sex and sugar class, LOL.

We have put up the next class schedule. Let me know if there are specific classes you want and don't see.

These classes will begin Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Radiant Step 2: Introduction (2 weeks) will teach you the basics of journaling. The class will give you step-by-step instructions in how to record your food and feelings in a way that gets you excited.

Brain Chemistry: Serotonin (2 weeks) is one of our most popular classes. It helps you make sense of why the potato works, why you have a problem in the winter and how Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can play into this. If you munch in your mind, if you are depressed or edgy or feel sad, this is the class for you.

These classes will begin Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Radiant Step 1 (2 weeks)is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start.

The Addiction Amoeba (2 weeks) - a specialized class to learn how other addictions are connected to sugar- and white-things- addiction.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

The more you are able to just observe and note your food and feelings, the easier it will be for you to make changes in them.

** Testimonial of the Week **

I don't know how much of a money saving thing this is but I have figured that it is cost effective for me given my situation.... so what am I talking about you ask? :)

I'm going to begin buying Restore protein powder from the RR store. I tried it over the Ranch weekend and loved it. I even tried a few of those sprout packets Kathleen has mentioned in the newsletter with the powder and also liked it.

Buying Restore or George's has always been sort of a mental struggle for me, first because I thought I could never afford it and then because, here comes the low self-esteem drum roll, I thought I didn't deserve to eat such a tasty protein powder.

So after trying and liking Restore I went over in my head the monthly cost of it and then considered what I now pay for protein powder with a few other factors in play and found that I could make it happen if I wanted to.

Anyhow thought I'd share this because it reminded me a little of how if you want something there is almost always a way to make it work.

Thanks,
john

** Radiant Ambassadors **

On a Friday afternoon I help out in a school office. I had finished my work for the afternoon and was getting ready to sign out when I was offered a chocolate - I could see that both ladies were munching away happily.

I said, 'no thanks, I don't eat chocolate - I can never stop at one.' They laughed but thought I was just being 'good', you know, 'diet head' and all that. (Gosh, that seems an absolute eternity ago!) So I told them, 'nope, actually - I REALLY don't eat chocolate any more and it's wonderful!' It's funny, that's the second time I've said that to someone this week.

I didn't mention Radiant Recovery as such but I did sow the seed that it is possible NOT to eat chocolate. Slowly but surely LOL!

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **

I found PnP in a bookstore back in '98. I glanced at it for a second, and then I read, "it's not in your head, or a matter of attitude" and I quickly sat down in the bookstore and read some more and read, "You will regain your birthright" and I thought, "my god this is it" (I will never forget those words as long as I live).

I went home and read it cover to cover in one night, and the sad part is, as I was reading it, I had gone thru 2 or 3 bowls of potato chips and some candy bars. I also remember I had no idea what a protein was or a carbohydrate, simple or complex, I had no idea about anything, but My attitude was, "I don't care if I have to eat cardboard the rest of my life, if I don't have depression and panic attacks anymore, that is good enough for me." I still have that attitude, I really do not care what it takes, just tell me what it takes, and I will do it. I never ever ever ever want to go back to where I was as long as i live. I suffered far too long, and I will always remember that 'sting'.

I was so excited about this program, I started telling everyone, and I met big-time resistance from everyone I knew. No one wanted to hear it, lol (gee, I wonder why). Well, I did the typical all or nothing deal and crashed and burned. I went back to my old ways of eating until '06 when I realized Kathleen had a website, and I joined. I had no idea back then that there was a website or I would've gladly come here.

Tom

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

Well, a number of you reported that you loved hearing all about pycnogenol so I thought I will give you the low-down on omega 3 fatty acids. They, like pyc, are a powerhouse, giving you HUGE returns for a small investment. Here are some of the positive things they do:

They make your brain work really well. This is especially important for children and people who are in recovery from substance abuse, sugar addiction and depression.

They reduce inflammation so improve:
  • Allergies like hay fever
  • Food allergies
  • Skin problems
  • Irritable bowel disorder
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Asthma
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Lupus
They protect against cancer and especially against cancer metastasis.

They are critical for baby formation in pregnancy and nursing.

Fish oil is a great source of omega 3s. And recently you may have seen advertisements on TV for krill oil. Krill are shrimp-like crustaceans that are a crucial link of the marine food chain, and concerns about the ecological impact of increased fishing of krill has resulted in krill fishing being banned on the West Coast of the US and strictly limited in Norway and Antarctica.

In contrast, fish oil supplements are predominantly produced from sardines and anchovies—species that are currently in abundant supply, fished well below mandated limits, and are considered ideal for sustainability, given their short reproductive cycles. Fish oil is not only a more sustainable source for omega-3 supplements, however—it also generally provides a higher concentration of omega-3, is much more stable, and is backed by much more science than krill oil. To date, there are only 3 published human studies conducted with krill oil, whereas fish oil—when manufactured according to international quality standards—has a proven record of efficacy, purity, safety, and sustainability that is backed by several thousand published studies.

My vote is for fish oil. And in particular, I LOVE Nordic Naturals' products. Raw fish oils contain environmental toxins like mercury that accumulate in a fish during its life span, but these toxins can be virtually eliminated with the use of high quality raw materials and advanced distillation technologies. Nordic Naturals fish oils are molecularly distilled, utilizing a patented enzymatic process that removes any potential environmental toxins (such as heavy metals, dioxins, PCBs, etc.). Third party testing documents the absence of PCBs, heavy metals, and dioxins in our oils, and Certificates of Analysis are available upon request. While Nordic Naturals’ policy is to test competing products on an ongoing basis to monitor the overall quality level of the fish oil industry, Nordic Naturals has never found a competing product to match its freshness and purity levels. So we stick with them.

If you have any questions about which product is best for you, or how much to take, call 505-345-3737 and you can get Kathleen's personal input.

Or, if you want to talk about your dog and how CLO can make profound changes in his or her health, she will talk about that as well. Some of you know she is the state president of Gold Retriever Rescue and she gets some dogs that come in looking pretty scruffy and go out looking pretty buff.

I would say that Kathleen is da bomb on sorting these supplements we carry.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

Sheba's Spud Recipe

  • 1 – 3 spuds, boiled with skins on
  • small amount green onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp celery seed (can use small amount raw celery if you prefer)
  • enough mayo to make salad as ‘wet’ as you like (I use ‘Spectrum Naturals’ Lite Canola Mayo – no sugar)
  • yellow mustard to taste
  • small amount dill pickle, chopped
Combine all ingredients until mixed well. Chill and eat. Yummy!!

**Why Does Clutter Stalk Us So **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

Recently in our community forum, members began talking about "clutter." I laughed and cried as the portrait emerged. I have known for a long time that sugar-sensitive people are gifted, creative, intuitive and sensitive. We tend to operate in non-linear patterns. We operate more from what people label as "right-brain" thinking. Our structure is looser and our struggle more dramatic. We are so gifted, so talented, so connected to such deep understanding, and when our eating is off balance, we are so easily lost in a pile of papers.

My own sugar self, like so many of you, was cluttered and unfocused. She always intended to clean things, but mostly she drifted into "doings" which were nice but went nowhere. It's as if the sugars create a sort of oozing state. Instead of being held firmly in focus, we tend to drift into a state I call "la-la land." Our brains are not quite in focus, our hearts not quite connected and our houses are not quite clean and tidy. I lived this same struggle, shamed by my houses and shamed by my life.

And yet as the food changes, the clutter story changes. Why is it that our closets clear, the attic stuff gets to Goodwill and we are able to find our desktops when our food is stable? Why do we start balancing our checkbooks, paying our bills on time, getting groceries in the house before we need them? We flap around less, we talk less and do more. We feel less overwhelmed by the clutter and simply go and pick it up. The papers go in a stack to be recycled, the dishes get done after dinner, the laundry is put away.

But we are eating breakfast, not going to an "organize your house" seminar. How can this be? I imagine that my house, my desk even, is a reflection of my "me." My house is a reflection of my brain, my heart, my self. Breakfast anchors my day, creates a stability and a place to start from. Breakfast says, "Oh, another day. Let's think about this for a moment. We need groceries." The choices are made differently. "No thank you" to the sweet roll weaves into papers going into file folders in the file rather than on the floor.

If we focus on breakfast, three meals with protein, no white things, no sugars and the potato before bed, our clutter will change. The shocking thing about the food plan is the pervasive change it creates. It isn't just about feeling better or losing weight. It's about the clutter, the focus, the intention and the sense of direction in our lives. Eat breakfast and find your way. Eat a potato and get a clean house.

It sounds pretty outrageous, doesn't it. My publisher would have thought I was nuts had I included this part of the story in the book. But as you all are doing the plan, you are experiencing this same thing I have experienced. Without prompting, you are living the very same pattern which has revealed itself in my own journey but I never told.

The clutter story is not complete yet. We are writing it as we eat.
