March 12, 2012

Hi {!firstname_fix}

Well, the puppies all have new homes. My house is strangely at peace, LOL. My dogs are VERY happy to have the little yippers gone and to be able to go anywhere they want. Today I noticed the trees are stirring with tiny buds. Our resident king peacock was strutting his stuff yesterday to his tribe of eight girls. Man, what a show.

The last two months have been stressful for me. I am glad for the quiet and catching up.

The time in the US has changed with Daylight Savings time. While we are waiting for Europe to shift, we will adjust the times of Eurochats to maintain the Euro time. This means if you happen to attend a eurochat, and you live in the US, it will be held one hour later. If you are in Europe, it will be at the same times.

This class will begin Wednesday, March 14, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Brain Chemistry: Beta Endorphin (2 weeks) - is one of our most popular classes. It will teach you the core of the science behind the program. This is the outline for a critical part of sugar sensitivity, why you act the way you do and what you can do to change it. I love this class and so do all the people who have taken it. Somehow BE rocks!

This class will begin Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Using Radiant Resources (2 weeks) - is a free orientation for those of you who are brand new and would like to find your way around town. Come sit on the top of our double-decker bus for a guided tour. And even if you are not brand new, this is a really fun class to reconnect with all the treats of the community.

As you keep your journal you can discover that there is a direct correlation between what you are eating and how you are feeling.

** Testimonial of the Week **

Well it is a cool, rainy morning here in Denver, but the weekend was warm and beautiful. I cleaned my house, paid my bills, went to the gym, and rode my motorcycle both Saturday and Sunday. All of those things make me feel so good, happy, and alive. I made sure to spend some qulaity time with my animals. Tonight I'll be spending qualilty time with my plants. :-)

I am mostly relying on my existing food supplies this week, so cooking was minimal. I did roast a chicken in the crockpot overnight, and I made some barley, but all the rest of the food either came from the freezer, a can, or is kind of ready-made (bread, fresh & frozen veggies, etc.).

Yesterday marked 3 months on Step 6 for me. [I had one sugar slip during that time, but came right back to Step 6 at my next meal.] I have seen so many, many positive changes. I am letting my body take the lead, and she is going fabulous places! I'm really loving my veggies like never before. This weekend, instead of just walking like I have been, I/my body wanted (!) to get on the stationary cycle for a bit, and I did, and it was fine, not the struggle that I remember it being before I began listening to her. I am feeling very healthy physically.

So that's my testimony to doing the food. I came from alcoholism, depression, rage, anxiety, bingeing, and fibromyalgia to where I am today, and it is nothing short of a miracle. And all because of changing what and when I eat.

** Radiant Ambassadors **

Katherine gave us a wonderful idea about how she spreads the word:

"Mine's nothing fancy, just a clickable link in my siggy, underneath my name and details; it says, "are you a sugar addict?". Some of the other members of our RR support thread there have put links in their signatures too. That forum has a special board for "special interests and support." So a friend who I discovered is also doing the program and I started a thread, where we now have about 20 members. I also just mention RR on the boards that I post on whenever I get the chance, if someone is posting something relevant. And I PMed a lady who'd posted saying she was celebrating 30 days of sobriety. I joined the "lots to lose" thread and I started a thread in the weight loss section of another forum I post on, asking if anyone else was doing RR. No one was but I got several questions like, "How do you handle the cravings?" which are fun to answer.

There must be a lot of people in the RR online community who are also posters on other groups where they could find the opportunity to mention RR. I think it goes down better if it's somewhere you're already a member of where people know you, otherwise it can come over a bit spammy. I tread carefully so I don't come over that way as I don't want to put people off. The interesting thing there as well is that people there have known me pretty closely for the last 3 years and can see for themselves that I have changed,"

** How I Found Radiant Recovery **

I found out about Potatoes not Prozac in Christianne Northrup's holistic health newsletter. When I read about sugar sensitivity in the newsletter, I thought, "That sounds like what's wrong with me." I went to a bookstore on my lunch hour, started reading the book, and bought it after seeing everything I hated about myself listed as a symptom of low beta endorphin.

** Radiant Kitchen **

Passover Potato Kugel
  • 2 lbs potatoes, scrubbed and grated or food processed
  • 1/2 cup WW matzoh meal (this is about 1 to 1 1/2 cracker in the food processor or blender) (can use WW bread or cracker crumbs if you aren’t being kosher for Passover)
  • 2 eggs
  • small to medium sized onion
  • 2 TBS butter or olive oil
  • garlic, salt, pepper
Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

Grate or food process the potatoes and onion until fine. Put in large glass bowl, let sit for a few minutes and drain off the extra water on top. Add matzoh meal, eggs and stir.

Add salt, shortening, pepper and garlic. Use more salt, pepper and garlic than you think you need. Stir.

Pour into a greased baking pan (9 X 13) and bake for about an hour, or until it is “set” (a fork or knife can go in the middle and it isn’t wet anymore). Watch the edges for getting too dry.

Cut into squares, and enjoy with sour cream, melted cheese, salsa or just plain. Will keep a few days under refrigeration, and can be reheated in microwave.

Can also use this “batter” to fry up really yummy potato pancakes. (If it’s too mushy, just add a little more matzoh meal)

** Radiant YLD **

The purpose of YLD is to allow you to heal the reason you got fat in the first place which includes....

Sugar Addiction, fats addiction, junk food addiction...that package

which come from unbalanced sugar sensitivity. So it is going to root cause, not symptomatic manifestation of the imbalance.

The process stops addictive behaviors so you get a huge benefit along the way. The process demands that you learn how to eat and do maintenance BEFORE you start the weight loss phase. So you come to weight loss with clarity, humor, problem solving and a whole lot of skill.

The process has you look at the emotional stuff that adds to weight gain and ambivalence about weight loss.

The process helps you get over the societal myth that being fat CAUSES all sorts of health problems.

The process teaches you how to know what YOUR body needs, and how to discern using data from your lifestyle to make change in a way you can hold over a long period of time.

The process is incremental, so you start with creating a foundation, going through the seven steps and then step up to weight loss in action with a functional attitude about how to lose weight in a safe and healthy way.

The process then gives you the 8 components of weight loss and supports you in choosing which of them you wish to do in which order. You get personal support and problem solving throughout that journey,

The process allows you to identify if you are stuck, and to unravel what factors are contributing and what to do.

The process gives you extraordinary information about exercise appropriate for your level of skill and fitness, and how to plan a complementary exercise program that works for you.

It's fun, it's funny, it has great support, it grows with you, we learn more as we do it, we laugh a lot..

Oh yah, and you lose weight, LOL.

I am sure there is lots more...but this will start.

** Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Step 3 list is a great place to stop by for those who are finding this a challenging step, or who are starting out or who would just like some extra support. We talk a lot about things like: What is a meal, exactly? How do I get my body to cooperate with eating "just" three meals a day? What are some tips to help me with consistent timing? And all sorts of other aspects of this step. We try to make it fun, because... well why not make it fun?? Since being the liaison for this list, I've been thrilled to see so many people come through and "graduate" to the next steps! It's a great place of support... come and join us! (And it matters not if you are new to the step, totally re-doing the step or just shoring up your Step 3 after being further along in the program.)

**Ranch **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I have had a number of emails in the past few weeks asking when our next ranch will be. I also have had some folks ask me what it is. Is it a seminar or a conference or what? I thought it might be helpful to give you some context.

Originally, I started ranch so I would have a reason to go up to Ghost Ranch once a year. That location is one of my most favorite places in the world. It is where Georgia O'Keefe lived and painted for the last years of her life. However, as we grew, they were less and less willing to work with us about the food, so we made the decision to find a place here in Albuquerque. This made *ranch* more accessible in many ways.

So ranch grows and evolves. Each year is the same and yet different. I always use it as a time to offer new ideas and thoughts on healing sugar sensitivity. I think of it as the heartbeat of our community. It is where I present the material that will be the keynote for a learning for the next year. I guess maybe the coming together helps us know what the next things are that we want to learn.

This is what one of the community members who attended this year shared about her experience:

Three opportunities to go to Ranch passed me by because I wasn't sure if I'd even still be doing the program by the time Ranch rolled around! But finally, after many trials and tribulations with Radiant Recovery, I learned that it truly worked for me, so this past May I took the plunge and went to Ranch for the first time and absolutely LOVED it. It truly was the best decision I could have made.

I can't tell you how cool it was to be in a room full of people just like me, and hearing Kathleen speak was just wonderful. The food was great - on program and always on time - and I left Albuquerque feeling better than I ever have. It was great for my program and really strengthened my commitment. I also made some great life-long friends who I can call up or email for support. Also, the lists have "come alive" for me because I met to so many people at Ranch. It's really helped my participation in the lists.

Here's my two cents IF you think you want to go to Ranch, tell your hubby you are taking a personal retreat, which is led by this amazing woman who wrote these amazing books that you feel are life changing. :)

You can invite your husband to come along, but I would suggest you try to go by yourself. I love my husband a lot and he's a good sport about my program, but I think it was important for me to do this on my own. I know I connected more with people, than I would have if he would have come along.

I should let you know that my husband was very skeptical about all this because I've been on so many diets and tried so many things. Not to mention the fact that I've spent hundreds of dollars on everything under the sun. But now that I've been following this program for a while, he has noticed that our relationship is 100x better, and our life is a lot nicer with me doing this program. He knows I can now get on a plane without being doped up on Xanax, and how much less anxious I am about everything. I told him that Ranch was awesome, and that I planned to go to many more. And he said, "cool!" So there you go.
