October 22, 2012

Hi {!firstname_fix}

Well, we are all settled after Euroranch. Back to regular life. And what an incredible time of year it is. The cottonwoods are gold here, against bright blue skies. On the weekends, the morning sky is filled with hot air balloons. Yesterday, I placed 2 rescue dogs. Today Harold came and did dog-pen repair, clean-up, shut down the coolers, sand the gates, paint the trim kinds of things. It is warm in the afternoons so good for getting ready for cold days.

And a nice time to do some fun classes.

These classes will begin Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Obesity Myth (2 weeks) - I LOVED this book and I think it should be required reading for anyone who is concerned about weight. Come join us in an in-depth look at the *myth* issues and the emotion residue we all have from them. If you are wanting to lose weight and have not taken this class, I strongly encourage you to do so. It is eye opening.
Napping Your Way to Radiance (2 weeks) - This is a class that will share some really intriguing concepts about helping your brain to settle down. I will go into the brain chemistry, talk about why naps are soooo good for us, and then offer practical suggestions for healthy nap skills. If you have any problems with sleep or if you are simply tired a lot, this is a great class to take.

Step 5

Step 5 (2 weeks) - is one of our favorites. Learn the art of whole grains. Get lots of information that you won't find anywhere else. I picked the brains of one of the world's leading *brown* experts for this class.

These classes will begin Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 1

Step 1 (2 weeks) - is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start. We are running a special and reducing the price and the time for this class. It will now be a one week intensive. Let's see if it suits you better.
Radiant Play (2 weeks) - will talk about the extraordinary impact playing has on the healing of our brains. Sugar-sensitive people NEED play and often we don't get to it, or we don't know how. This class is FUN and will teach both the biochemistry of play and the art of it. If you haven't taken this class, sign up. It is a wonderful part of our healing package.

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

Eating at regular intervals, whether you are hungry of not, will ensure that your blood sugar doesn't drop to a crisis point.

**Testimonial of the Week **

Well I am laughing. I have proved to myself, that for me it really makes a difference.

Just to give a brief background. My DH has a progressive disability. He has been on sick leave now a total of 4 months, and last week the specialist confirmed that he should retire on medical grounds. He is 43. The disability is beginning to affect his mind as well as the bodily evidence we have seen for some time. I have not previously had much to do with our finances. I have to learn fast. I am finding it all very difficult and some parts of looking after me have taken a back seat. Including making sure I have spud available, and cooked.

For a while I have had whatever spud was left from dinner, and when there was none, I had porridge. I was gradually becoming more and more tired, burdened, grey, flat...overwhelmed. Yesterday I baked some spuds. Lots of them. I had one for lunch, stuffed with tuna and sundried tomatoes and basil and olives, with a side of chick peas (garbanzos) mashed with garlic, lemon juice and mint leaves. yum.

I had a spud at dinner, and I had a spud, about the size of 2 hens eggs (bigger than I have been having) at the 3 hour mark after dinner, then I went to bed. I slept deeply, had some dreams which I can't remember, and woke refreshed, with a clear mind. Hopeful and purposeful. Responsive, and with a renewed sense of humour. As opposed to vaguely resentful, slightly weary or burdened, this is delightful.

No they are not huge differences. It is subtle. How I was feeling this last fortnight is a lot better than what used to be normal (smile). But how I feel today, is *good.* Radiance is a deep thing, not a shallow shine on the surface, it is like a Joy which has roots in my being, not reliant on day to day events and doing.

Does it *have* to be a spud? No, but a spud is the best (smile).

Kath

**Radiant Ambassadors **

The Ambassadors list is a great place to share things that have worked and things that you've learned about sharing Radiant Recovery with other people.

Lucy shared the following post with us recently and I think it sums up a step 7 attitude nicely, don't you?:

"Last week I ordered a copy of PNP from Amazon, to reread it. But I got confused with the messages that came up, and when the package arrived found I had ordered 3! The next day someone I am working with said she'd like to read a copy! I've got a sneaky feeling that if I always have a spare, there will always be someone to give it to."

How fantastic is that?!

**How I Found Radiant Recovery **

My name is April and I'm from Lafayette, Louisiana. I've had a "sweet tooth" to say the least for as long as I can remember. My husband used to call me the cookie monster when we were dating! I found Potatoes not Prozac at the library this summer and the words truly spoke to me. I found myself nodding in agreement to almost all of the stories in the book. I have three boys age 5,3, and 2 and see some of the same sugar-sensitive traits in them that I see in myself and husband. I want to learn how to use the resources to connect to others seeking a change so that I can be a better mother and wife and stop using sugar to live my life!!

**Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Depression group is all about support for the person who is depressed and trying to work Kathleen's 7 step program of recovery from sugar addiction. Many of us have struggled with severe depression for years without any hope of finding an end to it. But through doing the food we have found that hope returning and have found light where before there was only darkness. Some of us are taking anti-depressants while doing the food, so we talk about how the two are compatible and we also share about getting through the tough spots together, with support from each other. If you are feeling depressed please come join us. There is hope.

Or come to the group page to find the one that will best support your program: http://www.radiantrecovery.com/list_serves.htm

**What is Ranch About Anyway? **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

You know, every year people ask me what Ranch is. They want the schedule and the agenda, both of which I share. But I know that somehow they do not convey what really happens. It is not really just the seminar. There is something about the whole experience that taken all together is something very hard to imagine.

Stephanie wrote a post to the ranch list. I asked her if I could share it with you. I think she has captured the notes of it…all blended together to make some music we hadn't heard before. And you might read this and say, *Why ever would a waitress in a restaurant be important?* And yet, there we were, a bunch of laughing people having a blast ordering all different things from the menu, asking for adjustments and exceptions and she was just cracking up. Maybe it was the joy. Not really sure, but it is part of what happens.

But ranch, where ever it might be is the heart of what we do.

  • hearing everyone's voices as I read posts on the lists
  • the mug I bought myself in Paperchase
  • connecting with a room full of people 'just like me'
  • that calming feeling I get every time I get to listen to Kathleen
  • the fantastic waitress at the Haunch of Venison restaurant
  • eating gluten free the entire weekend and noticing a lift in my energy
  • Anokaa Indian restaurant
  • having tea with two buddies in the hotel lounge Sunday afternoon
  • going to evensong at the Cathedral
  • breakfast in the hotel every morning
  • learning new things about my programme
  • getting some fantastic tips
  • new information about my brain
  • a wonderful train journey into London with awesome company
