Hi {!firstname_fix}

6 puppy pile Well, I knew things were way too settled at my house. I have been enjoying clean, peace and quiet and then got a call about a mom and puppies. The people are moving and didn't want to take them to the shelter. They are just getting weaned, so I got up at 2:30 this morning for a feeding, LOL. No complaints. They smell like puppies.

This week's article is about May Ranch so you can all begin making plans. I extended the early bird registration rate until the 15th so if you read the material and decide you really do want to come you can still get that rate.

We have also put up a new class schedule. I apologize that it took me a little longer than I would have liked. Planning and building the little web site response to Newtown kinda derailed that activity. I know that some of you think we have a huge corporation here (smile), but really it is me and David and some blessed volunteers who do it all. So I really appreciate your patience.

These classes will begin Wednesday, January 9, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 1

Step 1 (1 week) - is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start. We are running a special and reducing the price and the time for this class. It will now be a one week intensive. Let's see if it suits you better.
Weight Loss: First Steps (2 weeks) - is a class for to introduce the basic principles of getting ready to lose weight in a thoughtful and skilled way. It is open to anyone in the community and you can be on any step to join us.

These classes will begin Wednesday, January 16, 2012. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

child holding teddy bear Magical Introversion (2 weeks) - is a class which grew out of your teachings. Last year you sat with me and talked about what life is like for you. I took that material, added the brain component, and put together the implications for sugar sensitives. We LOVE this material, love this class. One side note. Not a lot of you have signed up for this yet. I am thinking that you want to do clutter first. So I may move it back. Let me know what you think.
Using Radiant Resources (2 weeks) - is a free orientation for those of you who are brand new and would like to find your way around town. Come sit on the top of our double-decker bus for a guided tour. And even if you are not brand new, this is a really fun class to reconnect with all the treats of the community.

Step 2

Step 2: Introduction (2 weeks) - will teach you the basics of journaling. The class will give you step by step instructions in how to record your food and feelings in a way that gets you excited.

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

Be sure to visit our Radiant Recovery website and Community Forum regularly.

Warmly,
Kathleen

**Testimonial of the Week **

Hi All,

Just wanted to post a journaling breakthrough. Oftentimes in the past 3 months since I started the program, I've wondered, 'Am I 'really' sugar-sensitive? I don't really eat sugar that much'. Well, yesterday I decided to go through my past 3 months of journaling (however sketchy it was) and write down all the things I keep eating. I was shocked at the result!! My sugar/white thing to non-sugar/white thing ratio is about 50/50. The journal showed it right in my face, in black in white (or in my case, pink, as that is the shade of my pen).

Here is all the stuff I keep eating!

Granola bars/cereal, chocolate chips, soda, jalapeno bread, ice cream, cookies, snack mixes and crackers, cookie/cake/muffin dough, chocolate milk, hot chocolate, donuts/pastries, eggnog, croissants, cake and pie, pizza/pizza pockets, waffles and syrup, chocolate bars and truffles, Doritos and BBQ potato chips, pudding, Asiago cheese bread, sweet coffee drinks, apple and orange juice, red wines, pasta alfredo, jam, hard candy, bagels, stuffing, caramels, biscuits, brownies, Pirate's Booty, spaghetti, french bread, and bean dip (the canned kind in the chip aisle).

It's totally amazing how all of this can totally slip my mind when thinking about what I eat. What I imagine I eat and what I actually eat are two very different things. Thank the gods for food journals to show me otherwise!

I've really been keeping up with my journal, especially since I ordered the 'Your Body Speaks' version. (Good call on suggesting that one, Cindy ;) ) It's interesting that the quote for today in that was 'If you don't have a journal, you have no record of your process.'

I love stickers, so I got a bunch of sparkly ones that I put in the book for when I do exercise. I'm thinking about getting some food- shaped stickers for different goals like complete days of journaling (maybe I'll do it for each step I'm on, eh?). Anyway, I just wanted to share my discovery. :)

Carmen

Selena head shot

Have you seen the 'Are you a Sugar Junkie' video?

I love watching it because it reminds me what it was like before I discovered Radiant Recovery; the cravings; the feeling awful. But it also reminds me that there is a solution to wonky biochemistry!

To date the video has had over 6,000 views on YouTube.

Here's a thought. If you use Facebook, what if we shared it on there? Or Twitter. Or anywhere else for that matter.

You never know who will find it interesting and useful!

**How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi everyone. I am from Pennsylvania and am working on (and struggling with) step 1. I need help to get on with the program so I figured I'd better get familiar with all of the resources that are available on Radiant Recovery. I found out about the website by reading the book, The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program. I got the book because I saw it on Amazon and am desperate to get out of the fix I'm in.

Diane’s New England Style Baked Beans

I am a bit of a throw it together kinda cook and go by eye more often than I measure, so this is a collaboration for an actual recipe. :)

  • 2 cans of pinto beans, with the juice.
  • A few slices of bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup apple butter
  • 1 TBS grainy brown mustard or to taste
  • 1/2 of an onion
And from Kathleen:

Here is what I did.

  • I put 2 cans of pinto beans in the crock pot.
  • I sauteed the bacon and one half of a Vidalia onion in some olive oil.
  • I mixed the apple butter into the beans and added the mustard.
  • I added the bacon and onion to the beans when they were not quite crisp. I cooked it for about 4 hours in the crock pot.
And it was incredibly good.

**Great News on Ranch **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

Many of you hear us talk about our two ranches all year. The New Mexico Ranch comes in May and the European Ranch comes in September/October. Most of us feel that ranch is the highlight of our year. Why is this? What makes it so special?

I have been thinking about this a lot. I think it is because we are pioneers. Most of us do not have a whole group of people in real life that *do the food* and celebrate how this can be. So when we get together in person, something happens. First of all, there is an energy of recovery that is pretty remarkable. Humor, caring, commitment and wanting to have a better life. So if you are just learning the program, you get to hang with people who are skilled. And if you are skilled you get to share the joy of being with people who totally get it.

The content is always fun. We always make sure to have information for newcomers. How do you do the program, how do you do the program skillfully and with joy? This year I am adding 3 new sessions for beginners so you can really get an in-depth foundation. And then we add in what I call the seventh step explorations. These are the topics that put the cutting edge of our work out. Because the work we are doing in Your Last Diet is so ground-breaking, I have added a whole component about weight loss. You will hear information you are not hearing in other places. If you are stuck with your weight loss, this will make a difference. If you are discouraged or frantic, this will calm you and energize to move forward.

As all of you share on the lists and in the classes, we start asking questions, and looking at things in a new way. The questions morph into ideas, the ideas nudge my brain, we bring them to chat, and then to Ranch. And the dialogue at Ranch moves us all forward and then things move back into the community. So coming to Ranch means you step into the process of living the program. This year feels different - deeper, more focused and intentional about mastery of some key concepts. I am VERY excited about it.

I think in some ways Ranch is like a *do the food* lab. After you have spent time learning about it, then you come and work it in person and your program will be turbocharged!

And this year, I have some exciting news. We are changing our venue. At our next Ranch we will be going up to Santa Fe. I was up there a few weeks ago to go to an exhibit of the new hand-written edition of the Illuminated Bible. While I was there, I walked around and thought, Holey Moley, Batman, this little city is fabulous. We need to do ranch here. I went into the Hotel Santa Fe and spoke with them and they were thrilled about the idea of having us. And you can be sure that they really, really want to make us happy. The hotel is wonderful, the food excellent and they are giving us excellent rates to make this affordable.

We have put lots of information up online so come check it out. (refresh your browser)
