Hi {!firstname_fix}

The weekend was filled with joy dots for me. They kept tumbling in. I took the dogs to Cracker Barrel again. They have learned the drill. The waitress knows me and brings me 3 biscuits at the end of my meal. The hardest part is making sure the dogs do not drool down the back window. But there were hot air balloons in the blue sky, the hummingbird is happy to be drinking outside my window and all the other birds are making all sorts of noise. The king of the peacocks is explaining to the 4 teenagers that the girls are HIS. It is a fascinating dance.

The plans for Ranch are moving along. This morning I revised the schedule to accommodate the new material I have developed. What started out as a talk on losing weight seems to be morphing into something much deeper. I have drawn it out on graph paper in several colors and am looking at the ways to present it to accommodate our different learning styles. [See the book, Your Last Diet, if you want to know more about that]. I spoke to the hotel for last-minute arrangements. The banquet manager was not flapped about no sugar, no gluten, no alcohol, which was nice. This time of year, Santa Fe is simply breathtaking. Early spring, the flowers are just pushing up and the sky is brilliantly clear.

I finished working with the engineer to master the 2010 CDs. They will be going off to the duplicator tomorrow and will be back before long. The process was like a crash course in audio design. I was involved in all the steps so I learned what it takes to *do it right.* Many hours and much crossed eyes taught me a lot. This is also why I am revising the schedule...I am taking what I learned and dropping in into the 2013 process. The new guy will be in Santa Fe with us, so he knows what to expect.

And perhaps the most exciting thing is that I am looking at this material as our *course work* for the year. Ranch attendees will get the midnight first showing, and there will be a recording. But I am also designing a series of classes to follow each of the segments of the material. So even those of you who are not able to attend Ranch will have an opportunity to plug in. And for those of you who hear it at Ranch, the classes will give you a way to work more in depth with it. I am very, very excited about this new option.

**Testimonial of the Week **

Well that's a good question. And it turns out that today is the date that I "detoxed" 8 years ago!

So it's a good day to think about what, specifically, I have gained.

So my answer is long!

I guess I would want to say first that I did the steps all at once. And the healing doesn't come all at once, lol, so that's been my big lesson. In some ways, I think my program was 'slower' than for people who do the steps slowly and in order. The healing has been a process and it didn't come at any specific step and it does continue for me.

In the beginning, I was depressed. I was obsessive. I had a whole lot of anxiety. I had a major internal negative dialog that never ended, although my negativity was always directed at myself rather than others. (I lived in the 'You're OK, I'm Not OK' world).

I had reflux disease. I had rosacea. I had insomnia. My blood pressure was creeping up. I had absolutely no energy. I had headaches. I had lower backaches. I had a very painful knee and wore a knee brace constantly. I had numerous sinus infections and I came down with laryngitis annually. I also got ear infections from time to time. I was borderline diabetic. I had abnormal liver enzyme levels (indicating possible fatty liver disease in process).

Well that's all I can think of now, but there were probably some more, lol.

None of those things are a problem for me now, but they all took time -- some disappeared more quickly than others. I know that the first thing that disappeared was the negative thinking and the second thing I noticed was an easing of the depression, although it probably took a couple of years to disappear completely. The physical things were slower. My knee has been really good only the past two years or so. I can't remember when I last had an ear infection. Sinus infections are rare but I wouldn't say I'm entirely past them yet. But I expect almost. I simply don't get headaches unless I forget to drink my water.

My blood readings normalized, both for sugar and liver enzymes. The insomnia hung around for a long time, years. I thought it would never leave me but it has, probably in the last two or three years.

What I noticed most recently was a further drop in my blood pressure -- which is now running about 100/65, down from about 135/85 pre-program, down maybe 10 points this past year.

Another piece of healing that I am curious about 'unfolding' right now is this. I had my last eye exam 5 years ago (age 60) at which time I was told I had small cataracts developing in both eyes. I had an eye exam two weeks ago and was told I had a small cataract developing in my left eye. I questioned my doctor about the right eye and he assured me there was no sign of one in my right eye. Mistake on the part of the doctor five years ago? Maybe. Continued healing? I don't know, but I think it's possible.

Today I would say my favorite change is attitude. I now expect every day to be a good one. And I get it.

Don't give up, I'm sure you will continue in the healing process too. It has been really important, and I would add difficult, for me to learn to listen to my body and use my journal. It helps so much. I am *finally* doing a daily journal review and learning better ways to feel, for example, more energy (more veggies!). At least for my body.

I think if I were in your shoes, instead of thinking candida, I would be looking hard at my journal for weak spots --- foods I didn't tolerate, timing that wasn't right for me, that sort of thing.

I think it's amazing how much food affects our bodies, but then, when you think of it, that's what they are *made* out of!

Selena head shot

Do you remember that I wrote to David Cameron about sugar sensitivity recently?

And that he passed my letter on to the Department for Health?

And they suggested I write to the Clinical Commissioning Group for my local area?

Well... they have responded. And suggested I get in touch with the manager for obesity in my area to discuss their future aims with regard to healthy eating.

Kathleen mentioned that perhaps I could let him know about sugar addiction and how healing the reason behind it is the answer rather than weight loss. How true!

I'll keep you posted!

**How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi Everyone, I'm Catherine and I live in Aberdeenshire with my DH, 8 year old DS and a big soppy Lab, Bobbi.

I started the RR programme in Mar 2011, I followed the steps as in the book, in fact I didn't read about the next step until I felt ready to move on to the next. 2011 was an amazing year, I became the person I always wanted to be : ) I detoxed a year ago this month and I've been living the Radiant life since. Last Christmas was the best Christmas I can remember since a child..yaaaaay!

I feel I still have everything to learn (LOL) and more to give : )

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

We were talking about how to cook beans on the Doing the Program on Less list and I realized that our cookbook has a whole section on this. If you do not have a copy of Recipes to Remember, it is a good thing to get it. I love the section on wraps and stacks. I actually use this cookbook.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Radiant YLD **

‘Be slim or feel better’ was the question I kept asking myself when I struggled with those ‘I have to lose weight NOW’ feelings. I find it interesting how I thought being thin would cure my depression. But it didn’t stop me from trying! Kathleen’s program put the brakes on the weight I was gaining through bingeing. I was then able to get steady and work on weight loss from a clear and balanced place. What a joy!

It truly is as if we are sitting in the lounge of the Red Lion Inn, having tea and catching up on our thoughts for the week. And we have had some new people drop by. I think they are surprised at being so warmly welcomed. We love having them!

**Our Online Groups **

Most of us underestimate the importance of breakfast and try to do all the steps in the first week. When that doesn't work, we begin again. We concentrate on Step 1, breakfast, and find our lives begin to change.

The Radiant Step One list is a great place to learn the nuances of breakfast, build a strong foundation for the rest of the steps, and find how helpful it is to share our journey with others. It is great for new people and those who have been on the program a long time. Sharing helps everyone.

The awesome thing is we all, Step 1 or Step 7, eat breakfast every single day. How cool is that?

We'd love it for you to Sign up: We love new members!

**Some Thoughts on Well-Being **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I have been reading some research material from the American Psychological Society and thought it would be fun to talk some about some of what I am reading. Much of this material is more academic than excites me. But there was a scale of "psychological well being" that I found intriguing. It measures self-acceptance, positive relations, purpose in life, environmental mastery, personal growth and autonomy.

These sound a lot like what happens as people do the food. So now I am thinking what fun it would be if we began to have a dialogue on our forum and lists about what it is that happens with the food. I am going to start by sharing what I notice.
  • Blame and entitlement shift to taking responsibility and humility.
  • Despair shifts to hopefulness.
  • Anger shifts to humor.
  • Inadequacy shifts to empowerment.
  • Isolation shifts to connection.
  • Arguing changes to sharing.
  • Denial moves to disclosure.
When I started, I thought it was about healing depression and addiction. I thought we were creating a health system. I had no idea what else would come. I thought the changes I experienced, all of the above and more, were personal things coming from my own journey. But as time passed, it seems that these changes come with the territory. They are developmentally predictable and way more universal than I ever imagined

Doing the food changes something profound. It is as if it resets us to a state of openness - open heart ready for healing. And then all the other stuff we all do has a place to sit. I often use the image of a cracked bowl. We can fill it a thousand times, spend a lifetime trying and we still are empty. If we fix the crack, we get filling up and spilling over.

This community, this website is made possible by the tireless work of close to 50 volunteers. They are spilling over and share the recovery, the radiance that doing the food has brought them. Go read their stories if you want to know what is in store. And come share your stories as well.

With deep gratitude,

Kathleen
