Hi {!firstname_fix}

Historically, I have been unwilling to start any Christmas decorating before my birthday and Thanksgiving. However, Saturday was a beautiful day and I had the urge to do something fun. I decided to bring my truck in the front yard. This meant calling Harold and asking him to take down a piece of the fence. He did and then drove the truck into the yard. We put Christmas lights on the back, and set the Golden Retriever ornament in the front seat. This morning I happened to wake up at 4 AM. It was still dark, so I turned on the lights to the truck. The cab lit up with the dog. It sure did make me smile.

Thanksgiving Candles This week in the US is a week of gratitude. Most of us slow down, take time to connect with family and the ones we love. Two of my children are back east. David and I will Skype and make it a family *come together day*...the blessings of modern technology!

I am going to renew my joy dot practice and do it every day for the next month...just the idea makes me smile.

Joy Dot #1 This morning I got a call from someone who said she couldn't come out for a meeting because her ride was freaked about driving in the snow. I said I would go get her. I hopped into my 4 Runner, put it in 4-wheel drive and went out to icy roads. It was so beautiful. White snow, and just getting light.

Joy Dot #2 Four rescue dogs made a jail break today after ripping a hole in the fence. I saw them blazing by while I was doing email. Out I went. Three dogs rushed back through the hole. The 4th, called Gigi, was really scared and ran away. My friends were coming down the street to get me for my birthday brunch, stopped the car and herded her back my way. A coordinated rescue effort. I locked everyone up but the little one. Put a bale of wood chips against the hole, called Harold. We went to brunch, he came and fixed hole!

Joy Dot #3 Grey skies, grey tree skeletons, dots on snow left and wonderful friends celebrating birthdays.

All good!

We won't start any classes Thanksgiving week.

This class will begin Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Please click on the name of the class and it will take you to the registration page:

Step 1

Step 1 (2 weeks) - is our foundation class to get you started. Learn all four parts of step 1 in a structured way. Learn how to progress through them with enjoyment. Let us support getting your program off to a fabulous start.
Dopamine (2 weeks) - a look at sugar sensitivity and dopamine. Learn about the fourth leg of the story and see if this is your missing piece. It's a great class to take at this time of year too. (smile)

The class schedule is online. Click here to see what is planned.

A number of you have asked me how the classes work. Check the class list page for more information on this. And please go read the questions and answers before you write to me. If you have trouble getting through the process, write the tech forum.

First you will notice your body's "commment" (stomachache, fatigue, and so on), and then you will learn to interpret what it means.

**Testimonial of the Week **

Stretching to the last minute is good to be aware of, as we are after a BE hit. Shock, horror, surely not!

Becoming more generous and abundant with yourself is going to make a massive difference.

November is shaping up as an exciting month of new breakfast adventures for you.

**Radiant Ambassadors **

Selena head shot

How would you describe Radiant Recovery Ranch?

A seminar? Nutrition conference? Weekend with friends (new and old)?

Sandra shared on the Ambassadors list that it's getting easier "...to share about ranch more and to discern who is interested and who isn't. Even wrote down website for several people this week!"

Yay!!

Slowly, but surely, more and more people are hearing about Radiant Recovery!

**How I Found Radiant Recovery **

Hi, I'm Patty from San Francisco, CA Ð I read Potatoes not Prozac on vacation recently and immediately started the breakfast Ð the book was all about me.

** Radiant Recovery® Store **

David manages the Radiant Recovery® Store. He is also Kathleen's oldest son.

The 2010 Ranch CD is a great gift.

It starts with a clear discussion of the steps. This will give you a wonderful updated reflection on each step, and then their relationship to one another. Ironically the going off of sugar step is the shortest time. I will let you guess which is the longest (smile).

Then Kathleen talks about the Addiction Amoeba...those other pesky things that grab us along the way. If you have heard the term and wondered what we are talking about, this reflection will give you such a sense about how addiction creeps in, lodges in our hearts and sucks the life out.

Kathleen said, *I listened to this maybe 20 times as we were editing. And I kept thinking, there is so much comfort here. To realize how much addiction is biochemical is so comforting. And to realize it can be healed gives so much hope. We don't have to do drama, or get scared or overwhelmed, we can just get things settled.*

The emotional healing segment is a perfect companion for those of you who use Safe Place. to meditate. It explains *why* guided imagery can heal things like nothing else will. Listening over and over was so healing. The words make sense. The words give tenderness and guidance the power behind this core part of what we do for healing.

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Radiant YLD **

This is a great post from Linda (OK):

  • feeling very upbeat and energized
  • socializing after the chair exercise class today
  • some of my shirts fitting a little looser
  • noticing my pain has been better the last few days even though I did not re-start my prescription anti-inflammatory

Hello all,

I am aware of having much more energy recently. I'm sure it's a combination of things: more exercise, less pain, green smoothies, good sleep, great food! I am not sitting in front of the computer as much, and just moving and doing more in general. The better I feel, the more I want to do.

I am enjoying my new exercise routine. I find myself thinking about going to the gym even when I'm not scheduled to go! Wow, I never expected that.

I read a great quote from Francis of Assisi:
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
This quote is going in my journal! It perfectly fits my experience with RR. First with the food, then with emotional healing, then relationships, then exercise, and more. Accomplishing one impossible thing seems to just lead to starting the cycle all over again, but in a new direction.

Have a great weekend!

Linda

**Radiant Conversations **

We have a new portal for the Conversations program. Come check it out here.

I hope you peek at the transcripts to see what they talk about at our chats. The really, really fun part is that mostly we talk about the article from the newsletter. Sometimes not, mostly yes. But the most astounding thing is that whatever the conversation starts as, it shifts into what people most need to hear. It is like having cozy tea together, or like sitting by the sea chatting about things that fill us up. We don't talk about the food, we talk about hopes and dreams.

If you would like to join us, you can do that below.

**Our Online Groups **

The Radiant Step Two list is a source of helpful information and support with journaling. On this list we talk about how to get started with the journal, how to start listening to our body and why giving it a voice is so important. We also discuss how to use the journal for detective work in our program and, of course, how to make journaling fun! Right now the list is rockin' with people supporting each other and making big discoveries with their journal. So whether you are just starting out or are looking for a recharge in your journaling, come on over and join in the fun!

**The Mystery of Joy Dots **
Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

I know that many of you have heard the term *joy dots* being talked about in the community. You may have seen people posting their *joys* and thought it was a pleasant exercise, but you really had no context. I thought it would be fun if we talked some about the idea. THis will let you share in the excitement they bring us.

So here is the back story. Our depression list was the very first list we ever started in the community. For many years, it was a pretty grim place. People came in and shared about being depressed. It kinda went round and round and round. As people did the food, they usually left the list and joined the community in other places.

A few years ago I was having a conversation with one of the women on the list about her being stuck. She was upset by the fact that she had been doing step 3 for years and could not get past it. She was pretty negative and grim. One day I challenged her to just write three things that she noticed during the day that gave her joy. I think this idea came out of the class I was teaching about the amygdala - the center of the brain that processes primal emotions like fear, anger and joy.

At any rate, she agreed to do it. Later she admitted to me that she thought it was a really stupid idea and she only agreed to prove me wrong. She just started tacking three sentences on the bottom of her posts. *I noticed the flowers blooming in the garden* *I liked how the light was shining on the trees.* *There were dew drops on the spider web.* *My shake was yummy this morning.* They were simple declaratives and caught a joy moment. We called them *joy dots.* They were interesting, pleasant and no one really noticed them.

Some time passed and one day I said, *Can you move those joy dots up to the top of your posts?* She did. And something very strange happened. Her tone changed. She was no longer grim. And she started looking at things in a different way.

And then something even stranger happened. Other people on the list started doing the same thing. Joy dots first. And the list woke up. The energy shifted. Grim faded. The list started laughing. The members started connecting to each other. Now we call the depression list, the joy list.

If you think it is silly, just try it. See what happens.
