Hi {!firstname_fix}

Ronan (my dog) was 11 last Friday. We decided to have a *party* on Facebook so all the brothers and sister checked in. We sent pictures and shared about these wonderful dogs. it was really a lot of fun and made me smile to go through all my old photos of Ronan and his late mom, Pepper.

After that joyous day of celebration, I woke up this morning to a dog in profound pain. I know enough about vital signs to know that something was seriously wrong. I called my vet who doesn’t work on Sunday, but she agreed that it was not good. She asked me if I would like her to meet me at the clinic. I said yes. She drove in from the mountains, I asked David to come with me. The X-rays and blood work confirmed that he had hemangiosarcoma and was bleeding internally. I made the decision that I did not want him to suffer and so Ronan left this morning to be with his mother, and his sisters and brother at the rainbow bridge.

We all wept at his passing. I know that many of you have lost treasured pets this year. This is the contract we agree to...love this deeply and be faced with this anguish at the parting. Ronan was his mother’s special boy...and he was my special boy as well. My heart hurts today.

I will not be starting any new classes this week.

These classes will begin Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Please Signup and it will take you to the registration page:

Clearing Clutter

A FOCUSED support to getting your house, your yard, your closets, your life, your soul all cleaned up. This will be a funny, playful way to look at the scary corners filled with 15 spice jars, cosmetics pots of face cream, tools or old sheets that you might need someday. This is an opportunity to face your stuff and be supported in letting it go. Actually this is the class that got me started on the process I am in now. We will talk about what we have learned since the very first clutter class, including why sugar sensitive people are particularly vulnerable to *holding onto* stuff. I love this class and hope you will join us.

**Testimonial of the Week**

I am just new on step 7, and still have caffeine in my diet, but the healing that has happened since the beginning of September is nothing short of amazing. I came to the program with depression and insomnia and I'm very happy to report that I am now sleeping regularly and waking refreshed. I am now calm as opposed to extremely irritable and very cranky. My cravings for sugar vanished long ago. I have the desire and energy to do things - not just the daily stuff, but bigger challenges as well. I am beginning an 'Interior Finishing' course in February and I'm really excited about it! I feel good overall physically and emotionally, but I know it is early days yet and my body has still more healing to do...

In the beginning I debated going back on anti-depressants, but I chose not to and I'm so glad I didn't. So all my healing has come from doing the program. Sept, Oct, Nov I still was not sleeping well then boom in December the healing just seemed to kick in full force.

I have been walking an hour/day 5 days/week for a while now and am slowly incorporating meditation and yoga into my life. And I will give up caffeine at some point as well.

I'm so grateful to you and this program. I know you've probably heard it a few thousand times before but this program has been a lifesaver for me. It answered so many questions that I have been longing to know. Thank you Kathleen from the bottom of my heart.

Bye for now, Lise

**Radiant Recovery® Store**

I asked David to feature Your Body Speaks this week. The more I use my journal, the more I love it. I recently finished a 90/90 on journaling. I committed to journal carefully for every day for 90 days. Man, did I get a lot of information. There is a method to my madness in every part of how it is designed. It really works!

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

**Radiant Kitchen**

This exchange was shared on the Parents' list and the recipe is from Janie.

I would love to have your recipe for the cake you mentioned.

Ok, but remember I totally made this up, lol! You can play with it anyway you want. We have always found that adapting recipes to meet our needs is fun. We like experimenting, lol.

This is for a bigger cake. Sometimes I only do half if it's just for Grace to bring to a party.

  • 2 cups oat flour
  • 2 cups brown rice flour(you can also do 1/2 flour and 1/2 protein powder)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 mashed banana
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup liquid (we use goat's milk but it can be other milks or even water)
  • Nuts optional
Mix all together and bake in a pan with greased bottom for about an hour.

Topping

  • heavy whipping cream
  • with 1 mashed banana
  • Strawberries for the top
Whip all together 'til stiff. We also put in food coloring to make it 'pretty.'
For great program-friendly recipes, check out our Cookbook in the store and visit our online Radiant Recipes site.

**Radiant Your Last Diet**

Remember that Your Last Diet is not about finding the perfect diet, it is about never dieting again (smile)...it is pretty radical. But I think some of you think that maybe we are suggesting we don’t care about the pounds, LOL. Here is some comfort.

Kathleen,

I wanted to let you know that after just two and a half months on this program I saw a number on my bathroom scale that I haven't seen since my first kid was born almost six years ago. I didn't start the program to lose that stubborn weight, I just started it to get healthy. I know you hear these stories a lot, but I felt like I wanted to say thank you. It is a miracle to me.

Warmly,
Laura

**Some Thoughts on Radiant Ranch**

Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

We have been having a conversation about Radiant Ranch in the UK and I thought it would be very helpful for all of you to hear some of my thoughts that came out of that discussion. I asked the Brits list if they might share with me why people might choose to not come to Ranch.

The discussion about EuroRanch has been very fruitful for me. Some of the takeaways I have gleaned are as follows:

If there is a general sense of *cynicism* about the value of such things, then my low-key style of *less information* would not bode well (smile)...I think it would be good for me to give you all more information so you can make informed choices.

I also think that generally speaking, more and more people are drawn into the Facebook way of getting information... same bits, fast snippets of information in a busy life rather than taking down time and reflection.

I think money is a consideration...and it is easy to slip into thinking we are not worth such an investment if there isn't a clear sense of *value* around what you get.

I am aware that many of my colleagues are still attached to a high-powered, fast, information-packed way of doing educational seminars. Side by side, the marketing for such a style might appear to be far more glamourous and exciting for a *time away.* If you do not know the kind of thought that has gone into what we do at ranch, of course a long list of what you will learn might feel really persuasive.

But the seminars I have developed and offer are specifically tailored to sugar sensitive people, most of whom are introverts. I think this is an important variable that shapes what and how we do at Ranch.

Here is a quote from someone in the introversion class. I asked her if I might share it with you because it outlines so clearly the introvert way of being in the world.
  • I get distressed when I'm rushed. I feel scattered and anxious when under time pressure and struggle to keep my focus.
  • I mentally 'freeze' when I have too many new things or changes at once.
  • My mind goes blank when I'm put on the spot.
  • I'm not good at making conversation. Being in a situation where I have to 'network' is my worst nightmare.
  • I feel exhausted and drained quite quickly in groups or when dealing with lots of stimuli.
  • I get frustrated if I'm interrupted.
  • If I think or say I'll do something I will do it and feel confused by people who say they'll do something but then don't (I'm guessing some of these people are extroverts who think it through afterwards and change their mind...)
  • I love solitude. I feel refreshed and energised when I have time alone.
  • I now realise that to thrive I need a stable environment where I have space to think, time to prepare for changes and can spend time alone to recharge.
So, I believe that probably 90-95% percent of sugar sensitive people are introverts, and in fact that number may be higher in the UK and Europe. So, in reality, a fast-paced, information-packed event is precisely what will NOT give you much for your investment, LOL. Over the years, and with much listening I have learned to adapt how we do learning at Ranch.

We started with the environment... no chair scraping, we make sure there are drapes and carpet to absorb sound, and we have a room the right size but not so small as to have people feel cramped. I altered the way of presenting material to allow mental rest and integration. We shift from lecture style to sharing in small groups in an intentional way. A few years ago, we added special workbooks that allow participants to gather information from the right side of the brain. These are coloring books. Learning retention went up 100%. And ironically it seems as if coloring books are all the rage now.

We provide time for people to have tea together, to walk down to Costa for a cappuccino. This provides quiet time, integration space and more personal connection (also suited to introverts). Most attendees get private rooms now, or stay at less expensive lodging and come over for the workshops. This gives moms more space, and more quiet for integrating.

We plan the food so you don't have to worry about *program friendly* choices. We give you exposure to lots of step 7 people who are very skilled at traveling and ordering out. We put a lot of personal work into making sure the place is attractive, comfortable and professional and, LOL, if there are problems you get to see how people in recovery deal with frustration and such.

And, of course, you get all sorts of *insider* information. Usually we are working on the very cutting edge of the knowledge about sugar sensitivity. This year, we are doing the art of *best body* which is very different from just the seduction of weight loss as the only answer. We also go in depth for new comers about the *why* of the steps - what they do and how they work.

You get access to a world-wide author in a rather unique way. This means you get to go out to eat at a fabulous Indian restaurant and talk brain chemistry, LOL. Someone suggested to me that perhaps my willingness to do this meant that people were less *enchanted* by the value of it. It was an interesting thought. However, it is who I am, and I KNOW that those who take the risk to enjoy know that it is actually very special.

When I first started designing the web community, the web guys asked me what I wanted. I said I wanted to build a world-wide community and they had NO idea what I was talking about. This was before Facebook or Twitter or anything like that. They said, *Kathleen, we can make you millions of dollars* which of course meant money for them, LOL. But I told them that was not my vision or dream. I wanted to provide a way for people in pain to connect with one another, to learn how to live differently, to see food as a healer rather than the enemy.

It is why I have sat at my computer for hours every day, answering emails, doing problem solving, learning about introverts and refining the story about how we heal. And I think the people who come to Ranch know that cynicism is so not warranted. It is why people come back, why they celebrate this opportunity. I come back to the hotel that housed the stone masons for the Cathedral and feel their energy, building something unheard of in a time of darkness. I never knew Salisbury was a *tourist* town, I just knew it had the cathedral and a copy of the Magna Carta, and a hotel built in the 12th century and it felt very holy to me. And I knew that the people who came to ranch were a totally remarkable group of men and women with open hearts and yearning to heal.

I have ended up writing you a little ebook here, LOL. I love and treasure ranch. Thank you for letting me think this through.

Kathleen
