Hi {!firstname_fix},

Yesterday was the first day of our Grower's market. We have a tomato place. I always get tomatoes from them. This year they are selling plants. I got 12. I have to. spend the next week training them to be outside. It is nice. It gives me a week to get everything prepared for them. Got the well, got the water. Will get Alpaca manure, the wonder grower. I will make a notebook with pictures of the different types I got and then keep you informed about how my project is unfolding. I am actually very excited.

Radiant Ranch is almost here. We will start off with introductory material for our beginners who come to learn about the early steps. People thinking about Ranch sometimes want to know the content in specific terms and they don't quite get why everything is not published 6 months ahead of time. There are a couple of reasons for this. One, I actually plan the content based on who is coming.  We have a core learning curriculum for new people and then the rest of it is developed round about now.  I am getting everything all set. We do have one spot left if you want to be spontaneous.

If you have wondered why the program makes sense, Ranch is the place to experience it in person.Check out the Ranch page and see if it might suit you this year. Make a point of googling New Mexico as well. It is pretty spectacular.  We have a volunteer to do special trips planning. Everyone coming to Ranch is invited to join the planning list and share in the little things people will be doing.  And Ranch is designed for introverts. So if you hate groups and are uncomfortable sharing with people you don't know, everything is set up to make you feel at ease.

Don't forget we have reconfigured our blog to share our stories of healing. And you might check on what is happening on the forum...Janice is doing some really fun posting there.
Upcoming Classes
This option is ongoing. You may join at any time.

Coaching for Weight Loss

This is a unique offering for people who are serious about losing weight and would like to have ongoing coaching. It is ironically also for those of you who want to enhance your program. We do an individual assessment to sort out exactly where you are in the process. You will be guided in making your own individual plan. You can learn about journaling and adjusting your food for weight loss - what to do when. You can look at things to do to start while you are actually working the steps. This is not Boot Camp. You will be given tools and shown how to use them.

The coaching is done online in a group using Yahoo and Google. Please note that the preparation for weight loss includes mastery of the steps, so if you decide to do this process and have not yet started with the steps, we will do that first. If you are well versed in them and are ready to proceed, we have a special section to accommodate your skill level.

I do want to clarify that coaching is not the same as the classes. It is more responsive to you and where you are in the program. If you want help and are ready to be be guided, this is the process for you.The benefits you get include learning how to do skilled journaling and to interpret it to really understand how the changes you are making affect your well being.

Another perk of coaching is that you can attend the regular classes I do at no charge,

The fee is $20 per week and is billed in 2 week intervals. It is an unusual opportunity to work directly with me to be liberated from your past diet history. The signup is under the *special* tab on the classes page.  If you want to join, please email me first so we can touch base about whether this is right for you.

There will be no classes starting this week.

Remember that you are literally learning a new language. You are going to have to practice to become fluent in body talk.

Testimonial of the Week
I was tired all the time and joints aching and hopeless. I was, and am, fat (280 lbs) . After 3months and on Step 3, I have energy, hope, optimism and feelings of happiness I haven't experienced in a long time. It is deceptively simple 'on paper' but in action, it is an extraordinary process and it is made all the more amazing by the great wealth of kindness and wisdom that people here have shared with me.

I am no longer bingeing. My eating has stabilized and I am feeling more stable than I have in ages. It *is* possible to do this, you will have so much help and support. It *isn't* a phony fix.

Best wishes in your healing process,

Radiant Recovery Store
I asked Patti if I could share the post she recently wrote about the Cookbook. I liked it because I am the barbecue king, heh heh. I cook for the leadership party we had at Ranch. They all LOVE my salmon.

I have the cookbook and have tried many of the recipes and loved them all. We got a new bbq this past year and I made the different marinades with chicken and hamburgers and then we grilled it on our new bbq grill and it was so delicious! I would highly recommend getting it. Plus the cookbook has so many program tips in the beginning - whew a ton of information (which I embarrassingly never realized until I actually thumbed through it and studied that part). Get it, it's fabulous!

Please send questions and suggestions. I love hearing from you and truly want to help you do your program better.

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Tabasco

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with foil. Set a wire rack on the baking sheet and coat it with cooking spray. Whisk flour, sesame seeds, paprika, thyme, baking powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Pace the flour mixture in a paper bag or large Ziploc bag. Shaking off excess marinade, place one or two pieces of chicken at a time int eh bag and shake to coat. Shake off excess flour and place chicken on the prepared rack. (Discard any leftover flour mixture and marinade). Spray chicken pieces with cooking spray. Bake chicken until golden brown and no longer pink in the middle, 40 - 50 minutes.

When we originally started it, we had a LIFETIME membership. A couple of years ago we shifted to an annual membership and I just was never happy with it. So we are going back to lifetime.  Any of you who went the annual plan will be upgraded to lifetime. You simply need to contact me.

Radiant Living
Radiant Living is really just about the joy of recovery.

Radiant Living will allow you to share a dialogue with others – people who are asking the same questions and exploring answers boldly and with the humility that comes with doing the food.

These conversations will help you transform fear and give new tools for healing. We look at topics such as grief, crisis, trauma, emotional healing, revitalizing your program and stepping into your big self.

So the dialogue will be about the big picture and the practical ideas for daily implementations of the changes you are seeking. The dialogue will meet you where you are and offer ideas that you may not have heard before. Let go of old thinking that growing up has to be hard or painful. This is about joy, discovery, fun and creativity. And, of course, LOTS of laughter.

There is no step requirement to participate, only honesty, willingness, and openness.

Your membership will give you what you need to master this new way of being. Your membership will include:
  • People who understand and mentor you
  • A dedicated list on Yahoo with my own personal involvement
  • Access to a dedicated membership-only chat held at 2 different times each week

**Learning Boundaries**

Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D.

This article will be on the topic of sexual boundaries. This is something that comes with recovery. I don't always share many of our step 7 topics here but my sense is that many of you might feel the subject helps you where you are right now.

A while ago, I was having a conversation with a member of our community about something I had named *oozy* boundaries. I asked her if I might share some of what started this discussion.

Looking back at my pattern of relationships I've always jumped right from one relationship to another to another... always had something going, especially with people who are actually unavailable.

Last week I caught myself starting to feel super attracted to someone, in ways that I recognized used to spike me big-time (& I can see that, thanks to The Food). Only this time it really spooked me. It caught me off guard & I felt like I needed to take a hard look at the pattern, in the context of my recovery. I don't want to keep trying for relationships that lead to spikes & crashes, and I don't want to keep hooking up (or trying to) with people who are unavailable. I'm thinking that I used to use this new-relationship behavior to get high (and the crashes could be spectacularly awful). There doesn't even have to be any actual sexual behavior going on, just a remote possibility that it could happen.

Anyway I'm having trouble sorting out just how to work on this but I feel like it's something I need to look at if I'm to be really rigorous about that ol' amoeba. I appreciate your reflecting with me about it.
This pattern sounds very familiar. I think it may be more a part of sugar sensitivity than many of us have realized. I think because we often think of sexual stuff as so taboo that we shy from talking about it. We think that our own personal process is a function of our inadequacy rather than a part of our recovery.

I can only share with you what I did in my own healing.

One day, I simply said I wasn't going to do it anymore. I *held* my sexual energy in. I did not flirt, I did not play sexual energy games. And, to be perfectly honest, this boundary is what created the energy that took me through graduate school and got me writing. In retrospect, I see that the sexual energy is our core energy. I realize now that squandering it on *play* was pretty silly. It was part of my addiction amoeba. Flirting with *danger,* pushing the edge, creating a rush. All those things are part of seeking a biochemical rush.

So here is the funny part. You started energetically making the commitment to be alone, to be healthy and not be in an unhealthy relationship. Your psyche immediately started *casting*. This is sort of like making a commitment to do the program and craving chocolate the next day.

I think you are onto something in asking these questions. It does not have to be that you are screwed up and that you are once again doing old patterns. You don't need to do a big therapy gig. It is sort of like doing the food. You simply do it. You stick with the commitment.

What does that mean? Just what it means with the food...you don't flirt with overts, you don't flirt with coverts, you read labels and if they contain danger, you set it down.

You can make it really complicated if you want. You can thrash and whine and create drama. You can do what you have always done, or you can do what you have done with the food. You said you wanted to heal and you did what you knew it would take to do that. You trusted those of us who have gone before you and said *I want what you have*.

Sexual energy is one way we express our life, our power, our flow. But there are many ways as well as sexual. My hunch is that you are feeling the streaming. You have always in the past read it as a sexual charge. I am not so sure. This may not be about another person, so much as what is happening in you. Your spirit is waking up. Your energy is streaming. And because in the past you have read this as *sexual*, it may seem like that now. I think it is bigger than that.

I totally trust that your recovery is guiding you. You are asking great questions and looking at these issues with a great deal of integrity. I think it is time for you to trust it as well.
