Re: 12-Step Groups

Cold turkey is the hard way. And not the only way at all. And you can't ever eliminate all sugar. As you do the program, you learn what sugars or level of sugar cause problems for you. For instance, I can use regular mayonnaise, which has some sugar in it, and I can eat fruit. If sauces taste sweet, I avoid them. But this is stuff I discovered over time.

The people I have know who do OA always seem to be very rigid about food, white knuckling every day. There is no joy in their food. And the people I know who do Radiant Recovery often find their food world expanding, not contracting. I eat a much wider variety of foods than I ever did when I was eating sugar. They become creative cooks. There is no white knuckling. They have recovery, not just abstinence.

For now, all you need to think about is breakfast. Have you found a breakfast that works for you?

: I am so glad you get that too, and
: understand - we can quit alcohol
: and other drugs, but we need food
: (fortunately, or unfortunately??)
: for living! Really, so you think
: cold turkey is not the best way?
: Everyone at this meeting seems to
: insist it's the ONLY way, because
: even a little sugar will set them
: off to keep wanting more...and I'm
: still confused, how to completely
: avoid sugar. Is it even possible?
: sugar is in everything is it not?
: Even fruits, vegetables like
: potatoes, corn, peas, even
: non-sweet things like plain yogort
: and milk have lactose!

: I totally agree...I am tired of all
: these meal plans, diets, etc - I
: want to commit to just one and
: work on that one alone until I at
: least progress with IT...so yes,
: hope Radiant Recovery will be my
: best recovery diet ever!

: Is there any way to get a more
: detailed idea of a meal plan
: though? not sure if we are able to
: share that on here...like an
: example meal plan for a day...to
: make sure I'm on the right track.

: Thanks Kath!
