Reading always puts me to sleep, even if it's a good book. I usually fall asleep with the book in my hands (which is where a Kindle is nice, because you don't lose your place). Or listening to Kathleen's Safe Place meditation. I fall asleep, wake up when it's over, take off the headphones and go back to sleep.
