That within an hour part is really important - blood sugar crashes throw off our biochemistry, and waiting a long time to eat breakfast will cause a blood sugar crash. When I have a blood sugar crash, I feel physically awful, and then my emotions get all crazy and I feel teary. Then I also want to eat more food than normal afterwards and I start wanting foods I don't normally eat.
I put most of my protein shake ingredients together the night before. In the morning, I get up, blend my shake and drink it in the first half hour I am up.
