Yes, when I entered chat it did say "Nice to see you" etc.

I did a test when no one was in yesterday and found that there was a time delay when I typed of a couple of minutes, between typing and it appearing.

I contacted the Chat people and they have been very helpful. They asked me about my browser and to test my java again. The following is the last reply they have gave me.

My guess would be that you're being restricted by a firewall (software firewall, router, or perhaps a corporate/education firewall) and that you're connection is slow because you're unable to connect directly to the firewall, in which case the connection is re-routed through a web proxy (Sorry for all of the technical jargon) -- basically this means a slower connection, and longer time required for messages to post, be seen, and login/logout times are lagged a bit.

If we could have the account ID number, we could let you know if indeed this is the problem, and provide you with steps required to enable direct connection to our chat servers without being re-routed through the web firewall proxy.

As you can see you were on target with the virus protection idea causing a problem. So, I'm nearly getting to the bottom of this. I'm going to mail Kathleen a copy of the letter, and see if I can get the info they've asked for.

I'll post again to let you know how I've got on.
