I use Firefox and I didn't have to do anything special to set up chats, other than make sure Java was installed. So I don't have any step by step instructions.

Could you say more about exactly what happened when you log in? Once you give the YLD username and password, you should see another screen where you just put in your name and no password. Once you do that, the chat window comes up. How far do you get in this process?
