I don't really know why it's doing that - you would probably need to write to Yahoo.

Just curious, why did you get a Yahoo account instead of just using your hotmail account?

Also, if you go to the group web page (the link is in the emails you get, it says something like "visit your group" then you should be able to post from the group web page.
