Each person, when they go on a group site, sees their whole email address, but just part of everyone else's. So other people only see part of your email address, just like you only see part of theirs.

If you want to change your settings at Yahoo, go http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups (it will ask you to log in)
Once logged in, click the My Profile link.

I am not quite sure what you mean by "set up my yahoo account without my Initial of my surname showing" so I'm not sure how to do it.

Usually the name that comes across with an email that you send anywhere (to a person or a list) is set up when you set up your email account so that wouldn't have anything to do with Yahoo, and you would have to go into your own email account to make those changes. I'm not quite sure if that's what you're talking about or not.
