I am suddenly having trouble accessing *chat* I spoke to Kathleen who suggested that i might need to upgrade Java. when i try and open chat the web browser just disappears [crashes?]

so i uninstalled Java and then downloaded the new version. it asked to download a plugin called *java runtime environment 1.7 u7* it fails to install and there is a button for manual install which i pressed. this also fails to install and just takes me back to asking to install the most up-to-date version of java.

going round in circles..

any ideas?

btw my computer runs windows vista and i was using firefox as a web browser (previously i tried to open chat in internet explorer too and it also had the same problem)
