First, sorry for the delay.
You should be able to join the group using your normal email address, not your Yahoo address. Especially if you have joined other radiant groups - the YLD group is essentially no different.

Can you try again and tell me exactly what you are seeing? I would assume you want to get email at the same address you normally use, correct?
