Lindy, you mentioned that you are new to RR and that you are working on breakfast. You don't need to give sugar up now. In fact, the program will work best if you don't think about sugar now, but think about the step you are working on instead.

When you are biochemically ready to give up sugar, it won't be hard. If it's hard now, then it's too early. However, you can work on new ways to love yourself now. For me, sugar was my reward, so I looked for new ways to reward myself, like taking a break to read or do something else I enjoy. It sounds like you are doing some of that already.

Also, I want to reassure you that life without sugar is possible and not a struggle at all once you have done the steps well. I have been doing the program for over 18 years and desserts stopped looking like something I wanted to eat a long time ago. There's a restaurant where I live that has a big dessert case in the front where you wait in line to place your order, and the cakes and pies just look pretty to me. It never even crosses my mind to want to eat them.
