I understand what you are saying, given the way I expressed what I was doing. But I left out part of the situation, and I wonder if you might say something different if you know the whole story.
The part I left out is that I have started feeling a little "overstuffed" from time to time, after eating a full cup of oatmeal or rice or potatoes, and 4 eggs was beginning to feel like an awful lot. So it just occurred to me--maybe I can eat slightly smaller amounts? You are right, cutting back to 1/2 cup is probably too drastic, but if I do a little LESS than 1 cup, it seems to feel really good.
In fact, I would love to be able to cut out my afternoon snack (it would free up some time!). I have experimented a bit. Sometimes I will not eat it at 3, and I think I'm going to be okay. But then 4 pm rolls around, and I start getting desperate and grouchy.
I will post about this on the Step 3 group and see if anyone has some experience with cutting out the snack. So far I seem to not be able to wait too long between food events. I have even found that having two breakfasts makes me feel MUCH better.
Something to explore.
