I'll echo what others have said about things being much more clear on step seven. I agree with Allison's low key substitute easy things approach too.
I also stopped eating dairy and gluten on step seven. It was really easy. I also tried being vegetarian. Turns out I couldn't stay steady doing it (I got irritable and physically off), but with the help of journal I found that I could eat less meat than before. Journal becomes so clear at step 7 - it's easier to see patterns without sugar confusing things.
Also the body becomes much less reactive to things without sugar, though some things still do affect us. For example, mosquito bites don't itch when I get them, but acidic foods stilll bother me.
Let us know what you come up with that works for you.
