Hi Maria
I lived alone for several years before I met my husband, and although sometimes I felt lonely, I also really enjoyed the total freedom. So now when he travels I use it as an opportunity to do whatever I want. But I think if he was gone for a long time, I would get a little lonely.
When he's gone, I listen to more music and only turn the TV on when there's something specific I want to watch. I watch the things that I enjoy that he doesn't care for. (We have 2 tv's so I can do this any time but often we are watching things together so I don't have time.) I read blissfully with no TV noise in the background. I let my dog sleep on the bed. (We have 3 dogs, but one of them has decided that he's mine.) I make plans with friends. I eat foods that I like but he doesn't.
We have dogs, a cat and parrots so that makes it less lonely. I'm an introvert, so if I go to work during the day, or do group activities where I am around people on the weekend, then I'm ok with being alone at home. I also find it easier to work on projects when I'm by myself.
I'm glad that your breakfast is going well. And British mystery shows are wonderful. One I really enjoy is Scott and Bailey. I had watched parts of it on PBS but it always used to be on late at night. Now I'm getting the dvds from Netflix. There are some good Australian mystery series too, like Miss Fisher and Dr Blake.
