I grew up hearing towhees at my grandmother's house, but never, ever saw a towhee until I moved to New Mexico. Ours are not as musical sounding, but are a lot less shy, I guess. We also have 3 different kinds , and there's a 4th kind we see in Arizona. I love them all, but I think my favorite is the Green-tailed Towhee. The Canyon Towhee is very cute, though. The ones in our yard are Spotted Towhees, which look like yours except with white spots on their wings. We have several pairs living in our yard and see them more in the winter than in the summer.
