Re: Returning Newbie
In Response To: Returning Newbie ()

Welcome back Donna! I am also a returning newbie. This time around, I’m going to try the plan Kathleen’s way, instead of Debbie’s way!

: In 2002 I read Your Last Diet first
: from a book club. Then I got the
: other 2 books SATRP and PNP and
: read and resonated with them. (I
: have since sold PNP on Amazon.)
: When I started the steps, I was so
: anxious to lose weight (at that
: time 165 lbs for 5’7” frame) that
: I rushed to get to the sugar detox
: which didn’t last (only about 6
: weeks). Every waking moment for me
: was thinking about wanting or
: having sugar; just like an
: alcoholic dry drunk. By the way I
: am an Adult Child of an Alcoholic
: and I just do with sugar what the
: alcoholic does with beer, wine and
: liquor. I have heard that the
: molecular structure for each one
: is almost identical to that of
: sugar. Makes sense.
: By October 2012 I had reached morbid
: obesity (very, very fat) at 256
: lbs. Went on an airplane to
: Denver, CO for my granddaughter’s
: baptism and could not fasten the
: seat belt. When stewardess passed,
: I just sort of laid my arm across
: my lap and she didn’t notice. But
: I knew it was a major wake-up call
: to lose weight. I was more than
: 100 pounds overweight.
: In the ensuing years, I: lost my
: right leg below the knee in an
: industrial accident where I
: worked, suffered a homorganic
: stroke caused by a ruptured brain
: aneurysm and this last year (by
: God’s healing blessing) beat Stage
: 3 cancer. I thought the cancer
: would take care of my weight
: problem. Since 2012 I had lost 60
: pounds very slowly and kept it off
: for longer than 20 minutes. I did
: Nutrisystem for over a year and
: had some success but knew the
: packaged over-possessed food (for
: long shelf-life) was not really
: healthy eating. After cancer
: diagnoses, I was at 196 and
: doctors did not want me to
: continue to reduce during
: treatment. But I did, not by
: trying, but by being in the
: hospital for over six weeks
: following emergency surgery for a
: chemo-induced bowl blockage.
: Removed 8” of my colon and put in
: colostomy bag. Thankfully, I had
: colostomy reversed by surgery last
: December. Lost 25 pounds in that 6
: weeks and gained it right back
: after coming home.
: When I was a newbie the first time, I
: coined the phrase: When you do it
: fast – it won’t last. When you do
: it slow – you start to glow! And
: adopted the screen name of
: “Glowing Donna”
: So here I am now at 197.5 pounds
: ready to go slow, spending at
: least a month or two or more on
: each step. I unlisted Your Last
: Diet from Amazon and have
: completed reading it again, now
: motivated to do it! I need the
: help of the community for support.
: You are almost like a 12-step
: group. But there are only 7. Ha
: Ha!
: Can’t wait to hear from you Kathleen.
: I can’t believe I was talking to
: the guru herself!
