getting back to normal after a trip

I recently was traveling for 10 days. The first three days were a business trip. Although I ate more salt than usual and less vegetables than usual because I was eating all my meals in restaurants, meal times were regular and things went well.

The rest of the trip was traveling with my husband and visiting with my sister and her family, and then going to a memorial service. Usually when my husband and I travel, we bring a lot of food with us. This time, he didn't bring very much. My husband and my sister and her family have no sense of urgency around meal timings. We also did a lot of driving (Austin TX to Houston TX, and then 2 days of driving to get from Houston to Albuquerque). Suffice it to say that although what I ate was good, timings were a bit off for the vacation portion of the trip. It hasn't led to cravings or eating things I shouldn't, but I've felt better emotionally.

Since returning home, I have been concentrating on eating plenty of good food, on time. I also had some of my luggage disappear on the trip, with prescription drugs in it. They weren't for serious health problems, and it would have been a real hassle to replace them, so I waited until I got home, but that is another part of getting back to steady. Now I'm eating what I should be eating, and taking what I should be taking, when I should be, so I know that life will get better soon.

It was great to spend time with my sister and her family, and I also got to see a bird that I've always wanted to see for the very first time on this trip. I also got to see bats fly out from under a bridge. It was a fun trip. If we do that again, though, I will make sure we bring or acquire more food. We usually have all sorts of backup food with us. I left several days before he did so I didn't have input into the packing, and also we usually find a supermarket easily once we arrive somewhere, but in this case we didn't see one in the areas we drove in, and traffic was a bit of a nightmare so we did as little of it as possible. However, we did have to go to Costco to buy replacement jeans for me, and we should have bought a rotisserie chicken while we were there.

When things like this happen, I file them away as a learning experience. I'm usually good at handling travel, but I learned some things from this trip that I will keep in mind for the future.
