Hi Sarah
When I wake in the night and can't get back to sleep, it usually means that I didn't have enough to eat in the evening. I find that getting up and having a snack (my old go to snack was a cheese stick wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla and heated up in the microwave, before I stopped eating wheat). After eating something, I usually have no problem falling back to sleep.
This rarely happens to me at this point, but this is what I have observed.

: Hi Everybody,
: I have been waking up at 2am to 3am
: and then sometimes not falling
: back to sleep for the rest of the
: night. Unfortunately it makes for
: a very unproductive day.
: Anyway it is kind of a catch 22
: for me as I notice that if I eat
: more browns with my meals it
: doesn't happen as often. However I
: have glucose intolerance and when
: I have too many carbs my blood
: sugar goes too high. It seems it
: is hard for me to get the right
: balance. Sometimes when I wake up
: in the middle of the night I will
: have a couple of bites of potato
: and it will send me back into a
: deep sleep for the rest of the
: night.
: Anybody have this problem? What was
: your remedy? Thanks!
