I have become less rigid over the years as well. And I've found that I can almost always find something that works for me in restaurants. When I stopped eating wheat, things became a little harder, but I've only had one experience of a restaurant that really doesn't work well for me. It's one we go to when I volunteer at the Monte Vista Crane Festival. Everyone else loves it, so I will find a way to make it work. Next year I will either eat protein before we go to dinner, or bring my own bread so I can have one of their sandwiches. The only gluten-free option was pizza, but the pizzas were those gourmet ones that are delicious but very low in protein. I already bring my own lunches on that weekend trip because I know my own food works best for me, and there are little refrigerators in the hotel rooms.
I was so relieved to not be crazy and miserable anymore, and I was so afraid that I would go back there that I was more rigid in the past, but now I know that I may not feel as good after eating whites or not enough protein at a restaurant, but as long as I pay attention and attend to my next meals I will be all right.
