Busy weekend

*spending Saturday in a room with 6 owls
*getting to handle an owl I had never worked with before
*seeing lots of beautiful hawks

My weekend was all about birds. I spent Saturday volunteering at an event at a wildlife refuge. We had owls on display, some sitting on perches, and some sitting on the glove. They are all birds that were injured in the wild and couldn't be released because of their injuries. Now they are used in education programs. I got to handle three owls, a barn owl who I handle frequently, a great horned owl, and a spotted owl. (I had never worked with the spotted owl before, and I think I am in love. Then again, I am in love with most of our education birds.)

There was food available at the festival, but in addition to doing the program, I am gluten free, so I brought my own lunch plus water and snacks. That worked out well for me.

On Sunday, my husband and I visited another wildlife refuge. We weren't quite sure what our timing would be, so even though there's a restaurant we like in the town where the refuge is, we packed lunch food and lots of snacks. Lunch ended being later than what I am used to, so I ate the leftover salmon salad that I had made up for Saturday and some blue corn chips (which I used to scoop up the salmon salad.) We had lunch in the restaurant and although we didn't end up needing snacks on the way home, we were totally prepared.

I am on vacation for the rest of the week starting tomorrow. My husband and I are not on the same wavelength regarding lunch timing, so I am sure I will be making lots of contingency plans if we are out and about. We are well stocked with deli meat, cheese sticks, yam bars and oat bars that I can use if I need to.
