Thanks, Allison. I thought about that, but honestly, they're such numbnuts I could picture them leaping for the stuff even though they couldn't reach it, and knocking themselves out on the fireplace. :)

And most of them do climb everything, but I'll have to take a serious look around and see if there's a place I could really secure a tree -- or maybe we could just start with a Charlie Brown one with non breakable ornaments, and then if they pull it over, no big deal. I'll do one of those things -- enough years with no Xmas tree or lights inside!! I'll be like Fiona and start new traditions.

And thank you for mentioning the knitting looms -- I've never even heard of those, and that sounds like exactly what I need!
