also I was impressed with your appetiser choices, and the main dishes... ideal!
I recently had an experience. We were travelling, and had a winter package deal on a hotel including a "fine dining menu" Usually we will stay in a travel lodge or similar so this was under the heading of A Great Experience ! I was concerned about the canapes and also about the amount of food in case there was not enough of it ! So I had some parmesan chunks and nuts in case Those travel well
it was great fun. The canapes arrived with the menu, in a separate room with a log fire and aperitifs. Soda water for me and I was so pleased with the canapes - I had been prepared to let DH have them all, but one was a dish of fat green olives, very oily, stuffed with whole almonds. Just my thing. One of the others was quite interesting as it was like chicken tikka - but the base was a halved new potato. Have filed that idea away in case its useful in future. DH got the cheese straws in a fair swap for all the olives he is very agreeable that way.
the 'fine dining' I was pleasantly surprised - the chef let me mess about with the menu a bit, I had my salmon without the wheat crust on it for instance and extra
green beans. Lovely!
I did not need my emergency parmesan after all
that wont be us every day of the week but just the once was very good for memories. Just being in the dining room and looking over the snow topped mountains was a tonic... people-watching the other diners....warming up after wintry scenery gazing. Winter-boot walking round picturesque villages with a night- time view - no one else, no tourist crowds
