I weigh meat fairly often to make sure I am getting the amount I need, but I have been estimating how much brown and vegetables I am eating. I didn't want to get into measuring everything, and still don't, because it will make me crazy. The other day, on a whim, I decided to measure what I estimated to be 3/4 cup of brown rice. I was surprised to find that it was actually a cup of brown rice. I am relieved that I was underestimating the amount and not overestimating, but I think now I will measure how much water the various containers I use to take my lunch to work hold, so that I can estimate more accurately. That won't help with dinner, except that if my lunch estimates are more accurate, I will have a better idea of what different amounts look like on my plate.
