Never call tech support before dinner

*seeing our neighborhood prairie dog for the first time this spring

On Sunday, my phone went for a fatal swim in the washing machine. It was due to a series of unusual events. I was having my breakfast in bed and I was getting texts so my husband brought me my phone. I usually don't have it in the bedroom. I put it down - I thought I put it on the nightstand. A few minutes later, one of our dogs got sick on the bed (also very unusual) so I bundled up the bedcover as quicly as possible so it wouldn't soak through, and after cleaning off the sheet a bit, we popped it in the washer. Then I realized I couldn't find my phone. It wasn't in the washer long, but it got wet, and when we found it and pulled it out, the flash was going off like a strobe light and the phone was really hot. So I spent Sunday dealing with getting a new phone. Unfortunately, the phone I had is no longer available, and the newer iPhones are all much bigger. So now I have a big, clunky phone.

When I was setting up the new phone, I was having an icloud issue, and because I have had icloud issues on my computer as well, I decided to call tech support. I thought it would be a quick question, but it ended up being a long, frustrating circular process involving my iPad, iPhone and Mac. Had I realized it was going to be that way, I would have eaten first. By the time it got resolved, I was ready to eat my phone. Fortunately, we had baked some stuffed peppers from Costco, so all I had to do was pop one in the microwave for a couple of minutes to warm it up again.

Lesson learned. Next time, I will not call tech support unless it's hours before dinner, or I have already eaten. Of course, I am sure that being hungry did not help me deal with the stress, but I managed to keep a sense of humor and joke around with the tech support person. And I stayed pretty calm through the whole thing, starting with the phone getting fried in the washer. I know most people would be excited to upgrade to a new phone, but I am still sad about my old one, which I had selected partly because it was small. I'm sure I will adjust eventually.
