Step Son, Addictions and Ulcers

Hello,

I have all of Kathleens books, including little sugar addicts. I follow the program myself and have found fairly strong recovery. However, I do combine it with a 12 step program. My question relates to my 21 year old step son.

He is addicted to cigarettes, and pot. He does not eat much. He says that eating, "hurts his stomach." He does have ulcers in his stomach. He has a lot of anxiety, and anger which he copes with through pot. Let's just say, he's not a very functional young adult. He is on meds for both the ulcer and anxiety but does not take it consistently.

I would like to start him on this program, and have tried a number of times to get him to eat breakfast. But he refuses saying that eating in the morning hurts his stomach. He will not take a smoothie in the morning. He does not link food to his moods therefore he thinks journaling would be a waste of time. This is despite seeing me change over the years as a result of "doing the food."

He wants to give up the cigarettes but not the pot.

I am looking for recommendations on what to do, if you have any?

Thanks. Lisa.
