Re: Step Son, Addictions and Ulcers

: Hello,

: I have all of Kathleen's books,
: including little sugar addicts. I: follow the program myself and have
: found fairly strong recovery.
: However, I do combine it with a 12
: step program. My question relates
: to my 21 year old stepson.

: He is addicted to cigarettes, and
: pot. He does not eat much. He says
: that eating, "hurts his
: stomach." He does have ulcers
: in his stomach. He has a lot of
: anxiety, and anger which he copes
: with through pot. Let's just say,
: he's not a very functional young
: adult. He is on meds for both the
: ulcer and anxiety but does not
: take it consistently.

: I would like to start him on this
: program, and have tried a number
: of times to get him to eat
: breakfast. But he refuses saying
: that eating in the morning hurts
: his stomach. He will not take a
: smoothie in the morning. He does
: not link food to his moods
: therefore he thinks journaling
: would be a waste of time. This is
: despite seeing me change over the
: years as a result of "doing
: the food."

: He wants to give up the cigarettes
: but not the pot.

: I am looking for recommendations on
: what to do, if you have any?

: Thanks. Lisa.

Hi LIsa,

You may not like what I am going to say :)
*You* cannot start him on a recovery program. He is an adult.
Best recommendation is to work on your own recovery.

Do not try to do his. :h12)

Warmly,

Kathleen
