Going on a trip

We are leaving on a trip tomorrow. I am taking the day off from work, and my husband is working only half a day. We have started gathering the things we will take. We are driving, so we can bring supplies to make some of our food (for instance, lunches, because we will be out looking for birds and may not be near a restaurant at lunchtime). We stay in hotels that have microwaves and small fridges.

For food, we are taking bread, deli meat, mayo, a whole batch of Elaine's yam cakes, roasted almonds, cheese sticks, peanut butter, and I am taking protein powder, almond milk, oats and a stick blender. I will use banana for the fruit. Then I will supplement the shake with things from the breakfast served at the hotel. I usually find at least something I can eat, and I can't make my regular shake in a hotel room. We also have apples and celery to have with our sandwiches. We can buy more groceries as needed.

We are freezing water in bottles to put in the cooler. We will top them off with water when we go out for a day of birding so that we have nice cold water. On the trip back, we use ziplock bags of ice cubes in the cooler.

It will be really nice to get away.
