I've been thinking about the newsletter article on sugar and cancer cells all day. I'm still sorting out my thoughts, but I wanted to comment on it because it's been on my mind so much.
First, it's sad because if it's true, when people get chemo and treatment for cancer they are often encouraged by their doctors to eat high calorie, sugary foods to keep the weight on. And the part about addiction creating amnesia and anesthesia makes it harder to stop if someone doesn't have other coping skills during what can be a life or death crisis.
It also sets up a system where people can blame themselves for getting cancer. Of course I don't know the causes and reasons that people get cancer. Some might be within our control, some might not. I think it affects me personally because my sister wondered if she had done something wrong when she found out she had late stage cancer in her 40's and died soon after. She wondered if she had lived her life wrong or made poor choices. It broke my heart.
It also makes me wonder if there's a personal "tipping point" where some people get it while others don't, even with the same outer influences, and what that might be.
Anyway, I just wanted to say I appreciated the article very much, and I love that you find this thought provoking research and let us know about it.
I also really like that you put a picture of your sweet face in the newsletter, Kathleen.
