Re: How Sugar Affects Me
In Response To: How Sugar Affects Me ()

: Hi everyone.

: I read Potatoes not Prozac about a
: dozen years ago and managed to get
: refined sugar out of my life.
: However, I find that even a whole
: fruit, even just one apple makes
: I feel "off". And it's
: always a mental feeling of feeling
: disconnected, constantly judging
: myself, judging others, feeling
: like nobody would want to be with
: me, etc.

: It's very subtle. I don't get a sugar: crash, like falling asleep but my: whole mood just changes. My: ambition and optimism go and it: feels like I just need to survive.
: So I stay in after work and do not: want to go anywhere.

: Today I was super careful after a: couple of days of feeling off and: today my good mood returned. If I: have anything, even supposedly: healthy but has sugar in it, I'm: at a low ebb for two days.

: Can anybody relate to this very: subtle but definite change from even a small amount of sugar?

: Thanks for reading.

Nice to hear from you, Ed!

Sometimes it happens...usually is you are having VERY low levels of sugars, your neurotransmitters upregulate so you get this hyperactivity. The best thing to do to buffer this is to start putting in some fruit a little at a time. You really don't want to be in this vulnerable state. Put something you feel safe with and have some, each week add a little more until you are able to have a pear or an apple and just enjoy it without having any stress.

Love having you back.

Kathleen
