Morning has broken
Welcome to Radiant Recovery®

June 3, 2018

Hi {!firstname_fix},

I think we have debriefed from Ranch. Everyone was quiet for a week while we caught our breath. Then came reports of things shifted. Thinking deepened - a new sense of what recovery means. The new people got engaged, the step 7s started writing. We had a chat online and many of us were experiencing the same things. We started noticing birds singing. That was a little strange. I heard a bird early in the morning before dawn. I had no idea what it was so I made a recording with my phone and sent it to Allison. She knows all about birds, She texted back that it was a Robin. I decided he was like the boy peacocks who are advertising for the girls. *I am beautiful, choose me!!!* But now I smile to know it is a Robin in the morning.

Our progression to getting the new community function seems endless, and yet this is part of rolling out a new service. Test, fix, test again, fix again. Piece by piece, line of code by line of code. I am learning to run it, I get tutored a segment at a time. I take notes, I practice, and then we go on to the next segment. Then mentors will learn it. Sometime soon we will open the gate for you all to come in and play. Right now, we are seeding a few concepts. It will be worth the wait.

Our new apprentices will be starting in coaching this week. If you have been thinking of doing it, it is an ideal time to start. We will be doing orientation and first directions now. Here is the link if you would like to join.

Remember if you have ideas or input for us on what you would like to have available, share them on the Community Forum. We do listen and are very interested in your ideas.

CLASSES

I will be offering one 2 week class per month. Registration will be limited to 20 per class. If more sign up, I will open a second section. Classes are done by email, so there are no specific time constraints to be present. If you are new to the community I strongly recommend you take the brain chemistry classes.

WORKING WITH KATHLEEN

I feel very strongly about offering you a way to work with me directly. I have set up a whole range of options for you to do that - going from private coaching to being involved in small groups. This link will show you all the choices. Please note that Coaching Apprentice is open to people starting or restarting. It provides concrete, specific direction, Coaching Skilled is for people who are settled with their steps and want to look at other issues more in-depth. Signature Coaching is for those who want to work individually with Kathleen in a 90-day process. Signature is the top of the line. All who have done it talk about their lives being changed.

Another option is setting up a one hour assessment and then making a decision based on that conversation.

And you can always call 505-345-3737 and ask me about how each one works.

Testimonial of the Week

Wow! The relationship analogy is wonderful! It really helps put in perspective the stages of the program. Even though I have been a member of YLD for over four years, I never really "got" it ... the relationship one develops with their own body. To be honest, I really did not care about it until recently. I just wanted a way to drop a few pounds.

Now I am seeing that this is a program of building blocks. And I can't get to the top row until I build up the foundation with the previous rows/steps. These building blocks are the road map to developing a relationship with my body and healing my out-of-whack chemistry. I would be willing to bet that anyone that wants to feel better NOW does not understand the building block concept. I know I sure didn't.

HEALING! What a miracle! Not glossing over, not artificially supporting, not running away from or putting a band aid over - actually healing! It is incredible to think that this can be ME if I simply follow the steps and have faith when I can't "see" clearly or understand much.

I have not healed yet so I am finding the BE discussion a bit out of my "focus". I understand it to a certain extent and I see how a tremendous amount of my energy has unknowingly gone to spiking it. I see it as the last step in the progression.

Last night I went to bed without finishing my journal for the day. As I lay there I thought of the building blocks of this program and I thought of standing myself up on my date to get to know myself. To heal myself. I got out of bed and wrote - gladly! I want the days of clear and singing! I believe it is there waiting for me. Kathleen promised!

Gee, I don't even know if I addressed the topic ... that's how foggy I feel but I had a great time writing out what I have been trying to put into words for a few days! It would be interesting to take this class again in a year from now - I bet it would be a different experience!

If your dog is getting older and the vet wants him or her on Rimadyl, try this product first. Kathleen heard about it at a dog show. We tried in on Pippen, my Rottweiler. He was very stiff and creaky. In a week he was a different dog!  This is spectacular stuff.

Join Us on Step 3

This group is all about our very favorite Step 3. This was a tough step for me when I started the programme and it was definitely the hardest! I either forgot to eat meals, ate the most inappropriate sugar-laden stuff or just grazed my way through the day. It took me ages to master this step, but now I happily eat three meals a day. It's easy and very natural and I never dreamed I would ever say that in my lifetime!

The Step 3 list is a great place to stop by for those who are finding this a challenging step, or who are starting out or who would just like some extra support. We talk a lot about things like: What is a meal, exactly? How do I get my body to cooperate with eating "just" three meals a day? What are some tips to help me with consistent timing? And all sorts of other aspects of this step. We try to make it fun, because... well why not make it fun?? I've been thrilled to see so many people come through and "graduate" to the next steps! It's a great place of support... come and join us! (And it matters not if you are new to the step, totally re-doing the step or just shoring up your Step 3 after being further along in the program.)

Your Last Diet!

I just want to lose weight. I don't really care about the steps. Is this the right place for me?
Nope, you won't be happy here. Better to simply find a diet you like. We do the steps. We cherish the steps as our foundation for making a change we have looked for for our lifetimes.

I am just starting the steps. Does it make sense to join now?

Yes, it does.  We have found that the people who come to chats do the best with the steps. The connection in chat is awesome. And the process will quiet your angst about the number on the scale, get you settled and set to go when you are ready for the weight loss part.

If you are not a member yet, come and join us. If you are a current member and want to join us in the new chat room, come to the landing page.  I will post the page chat words on the YLD list.

If you would like to join us in YLD, come find us here.

Having Fun at Radiant Recovery®

We have had so many people come into the community in the last few months, I thought it would make sense to look a little about what we are really doing.

You came because you were tired of being driven by your addiction to sugar. You want something different. You might think it is just a matter of giving up sugar. You might wonder why we talk about breakfast, and then more about breakfast. Why are we not talking about getting the sugar out?  I know it can be a little strange in the beginning.

We want to support you in getting balanced and steady. We want to teach you how to be in a relationship with your body. This is why you journal. No, it is not a food log. It is about learning a new language. First you learn vocabulary. Then you learn to put the words together into a language. And then, you can have a discussion with your body into her or his natural tongue.

The point of the steps is making food simple, more enjoyable. We want food to add enjoyment, pleasure and even delight into your life. We want you to stop struggling, to stop thrashing, to know what you will eat, when you will eat it. You will look forward to meals and eating will be a joy.

At first, even this idea will seem strange. We want to work towards neutral. No more thinking about cravings or fear about gaining weight, or having to eat or 1000 other sources of turmoil. Just steady state in neutral. Then we’ll crank it up to “well, that was nice” and then one day you will have a summer meal, a hamburger and a whole-grain bun and fresh corn, salad, some potato salad made with an adaptation of your grandmother’s recipe and then some plump and juicy strawberries.

You will just sit as the sun goes down and not fret about the carbs or the pie or the sweet tea. You won’t be irked with anyone. You won’t be fretting about Uncle John’s drinking too much beer, or Marty having a pout. You’ll just be listening, waiting for the stars come out or the rain to come off the edge of the porch.

How can we explain all of this? How can we talk to you about this life where you won't be thinking about how much you weigh in every waking moment? How can we teach you that you don't have to be perfect or have it all together? How can we have you trust this miracle that is slow, subtle, steady.

You all are so welcome. You are our joy, you are the reason we sit down and share our stories, our progress, our stumbles, our laughter and our darkness. Maybe you will come to Chat, to Ranch, or a list. Maybe you will just listen. We are happy you are here.

Here is the Annie Lane column that brought so many of you here.

Dear Annie: I read with interest the letter from "Weird, Stupid or Selfish?" – whose husband eats all the decorative candy she puts out. His inability to resist sugar resonated with me, as I have sugar sensitivity and have engaged in exactly the same behaviors. I simply could not resist sugar.

After years of struggling and dieting and sitting in work meetings obsessing about the doughnuts instead of the topic at hand, I discovered the book "Potatoes Not Prozac," by Kathleen DesMaisons. Her theory is that people who are sugar sensitive have brains that respond differently to sugar, alcohol and refined carbs and that what they eat and when they eat it have a huge effect on them. She shows how to rebalance blood sugar levels, serotonin and beta-endorphins through small lifestyle changes and offers the latest research, free online support and seven steps to change your life. It is not about willpower; it’s about biochemistry, which her program can slowly improve, just one tiny step at a time, with amazing results.

I have been sugar-free for six years now, lost 25 pounds and never gained any of it back. I can go to dinner with family and don’t even think twice when someone orders dessert. I don’t have cravings, and sugar is no longer on my radar. I am more focused and more tolerant, and the daily mood swings are gone. The woman who wrote to you could suggest to her husband that he check out http:// radiantrecovery.com to see whether he does have sugar sensitivity. At the very least, she would be better informed about this condition. – Happy Without Sugar

Dear Happy Without Sugar: I hadn’t considered that health issues might explain

her husband’s behavior. In fact, I hadn’t even heard of sugar sensitivity.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the condition! I’d like to encourage all readers to talk to their doctors if they find themselves compulsively eating sugary snacks.
