many flags in remembrance

Welcome to Radiant Recovery®
Nov 11, 2018,

Hi {!firstname_fix},

Today was a day of remembering those who have served in the military. My Father was a military man. I have a picture of him leading his troops in a military parade in Arizona. Military life shaped who I am. When I visited England last year, I went back to the base where we were stationed back in 1956. We stood at the fence and watched the fighter jets come roaring down the runaway. It took me back in time. Same drizzle, same wet grass, same smells, same hot tea. Quiet remembrance.

We have been resting after the elections, letting things settle, feeling the connection to that day in January when so many of us marched. The energy is deep and thoughtful.  I have been feeling energized and able to come back to our tasks with vision and hope. I am sorry the newsletter is late. My computer got corrupted over the weekend and I spent many, many hours on the phone with tech guys trying to resolve it. Today a young guy from India talked with me for 3 hours while we did detective work to find what was happening. He finally asked for help, and 30 seconds in, it was fixed. One file and everything was set. Asking for help. Yep, that is what we do.

I have been building the bibliography for the new book. More on that in today's article.

I am restarting the Heart Healing class, and deepening the Screen Addiction Class.
Get Ready for The Ending the Reign of Fat Terror class that will be coming soon.

Remember if you have ideas or input for us on what you would like to have available, share them on the Community Forum. We do listen and are very interested in your ideas.

CLASSES
Last week I said to look for a new class on the new science of weight loss. It will be called Ending the Reign of Fat Terror. First we do healing, then science :)

RADIANT HEART CARE

A class for sugar sensitive people who are interested in developing a heart healing plan to supplement their regular work with the steps. The class will restart on Wednesday and look at such things as:

  • Any Heart Events you may have had
  • Medications, their impact and why knowing what you take makes a difference
  • Dietary Changes that come with heart care
  • Depression related to meds and trauma
  • Blood Pressure Management
  • PTSD after heart events
The class is $99 and will run until we are done. This is a unique opportunity to learn how to design a nutritional program that will support your healing and increase your vitality.
Those currently in the class do not have any further fee.

WORKING WITH KATHLEEN

I feel very strongly about offering you a way to work with me directly. I have set up a whole range of options for you to do that - going from private coaching to being involved in small groups. This link will show you all the choices.

Coaching Apprentice is open to people on steps 1-3 who are starting their program.  We have some new people starting so it is a great time to join Apprentice coaching.  This is also a great place for those of you who want to come back to the program after trying some other things.
Coaching Skilled is for people who are on step 7 and want to look at other issues more in-depth.
Signature Coaching is for those who want to work individually with Kathleen in a 90-day process. Signature is the top of the line. All who have done it talk about their lives being changed.

Another option is setting up a one hour assessment and then making a decision based on that conversation. And you can always call 505-345-3737 and ask me about how each one works.

Testimonial of the Week

I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying journaling right now. I used to have almost a mental block against it. Not sure why but I just couldn't force myself to do it. So I've gone through periods of writing in the journal for maybe a week and then stopping (and then going off program). Now I'm enjoying reading even those few weeks and learning from them.

And I'm thoroughly enjoying journaling now. I look forward to the time of day when I sit down and write in my journal. It's a soothing, calming time now. I don't really think of any "rules" while I'm writing....I just write!

Good luck with it,

Leslie

 The Basis of The Program

Kathleen DesMaisons, PhD

I had a very interesting experience this week. I am revisiting the bibliography in Potatoes Not Prozac for the new edition. I decided to go back to the major players I had cited 20 years ago and see what they are up to now. No one knew of sugar addiction then. Now there are 96 MILLION references in Google and almost 1000 in PubMed looking at different aspects of it.

I have been teaching a class on the Step One list on how to do Step One. I am pretty sure that many of them have not read the book so they actually don't have the context of the science behind the program or the steps. It is more like a healthy way to get off of sugar.

But I don't hear an understanding yet of what it means to be sugar sensitive, what it means to actually HEAL something that has such an impact on our lives, our sense of self worth.

Those of you who have been around for a while remember what it was like when we were the voice in the wilderness. Sugar addiction, what? The is not my fault? I am not a weak willed slug? This is biochemical and there is a way out? Whoa! Sign me up baby! I want to get on board. This is why people like Bambi have all those journals, why we make alternative pumpkin pies and plain special meals this time of year.

I am going to put the bibliography into the newsletter for you when I am done. I want you to see what the steps really are. I want you to understand that learning to rewire your sugar sensitive brain is life changing and what that really means. I want you to treasure this gift we have been living into. This is NOT just *healthy eating* by any stretch of the imagination. This is healing addiction by changing your brain.

We start with healing sugar addiction, but funny thing, some other stuff happens too.

Hold onto your hats for the ride!

Here is the Annie Lane column that brought so many of you here.

Dear Annie: I read with interest the letter from "Weird, Stupid or Selfish?" – whose husband eats all the decorative candy she puts out. His inability to resist sugar resonated with me, as I have sugar sensitivity and have engaged in exactly the same behaviors. I simply could not resist sugar.

After years of struggling and dieting and sitting in work meetings obsessing about the doughnuts instead of the topic at hand, I discovered the book "Potatoes Not Prozac," by Kathleen DesMaisons. Her theory is that people who are sugar sensitive have brains that respond differently to sugar, alcohol and refined carbs and that what they eat and when they eat it have a huge effect on them. She shows how to rebalance blood sugar levels, serotonin and beta-endorphins through small lifestyle changes and offers the latest research, free online support and seven steps to change your life. It is not about willpower; it’s about biochemistry, which her program can slowly improve, just one tiny step at a time, with amazing results.

I have been sugar-free for six years now, lost 25 pounds and never gained any of it back. I can go to dinner with family and don’t even think twice when someone orders dessert. I don’t have cravings, and sugar is no longer on my radar. I am more focused and more tolerant, and the daily mood swings are gone. The woman who wrote to you could suggest to her husband that he check out http:// radiantrecovery.com to see whether he does have sugar sensitivity. At the very least, she would be better informed about this condition. – Happy Without Sugar

Dear Happy Without Sugar: I hadn’t considered that health issues might explain

her husband’s behavior. In fact, I hadn’t even heard of sugar sensitivity.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the condition! I’d like to encourage all readers to talk to their doctors if they find themselves compulsively eating sugary snacks.
